Saie| Battle of Skye| Soloman| Starport Massacre

Saie

A mysterious non-human starfaring civilization which vanished approximately 3,700 years ago. The Saie are believed to have been based in Caledon subsector, but few details are known about them. Most of the existing information is drawn from legends told by some of the sector's indigenous minor races. One consistent feature is the aggressive, warlike nature of the Saie. The search for further evidence of this culture has occupied the interest of many of the Principality of Caledon's archaeologists.

Battle of Skye

Combined Imperial / Caledonian Star Navy action to suppress a spirate base in the Skye System (Reavers' Deep 2018) positioned to strike at the Spinward edge of Craig's Safe Zone in the Deep as well as targets of opportunity aganst the Principality of Caledon. The entire action took place from 172-1123 through 197-1123, involving half of ImpCruRon 227 and elements of CSN Flotilla 3, under Caledonian operational command. Three pirate asteroid strongholds were detected and captured, one mostly intact. Allied losses were 23%, including CSN Starfire on 191-1123.

CSN Starfire, a Caledonian Patrol Corvette, engaged the third discovered pirate outpost unsupported for 3 hours, until INS Jonas Scolaro, a Gionetti Class light cruiser, could get into range. Starfire was too badly damaged to return to Victory Naval Base (Reavers' Deep 2017), and was retired with honors.

The crew of Starfire was highly honored by the Caledonian Space Navy, including the awarding of 7 Andrew Crosses (5 of them posthumous), several Meritorious Conduct Under Fire citations, and the Monarch's Thanks. The Starstrike's XO, Cmdr Will Carter, one of the postumous awardees of the Andrew Cross, will be remembered by having the newest building of the Royal Naval Academy on Caledon named for him. Carter Hall will be used for classrooms, including the new Advanced Tactical Studies course under developement. It was also announced that the name Starfire shall be removed from the list of Patrol Corvettes and become the class ship of the latest generation of Strike Cruisers now under developement at Victory Yards.

Soloman (Reavers' Deep 1538)

Imperial client state. When the Imperium pulled out their ships in 1119 Soloman took over the base facilities and were allowed to keep a few small warships. They immediately started on an ambitious ship-building program in an attempt to avert the recession. In 1124 they got into a short war with the Carter Technocracy over trade concessions with Himalaya and were subject to a nuclear bombardment that destroyed the starport and killed almost 400,000,000 in the bombardment and almost as many in the aftermath.

Starport Massacre

On 148-1109, an anti-Dalreem protest at the Kurashi Downport on Ildrissar (RD 2326) was dispersed by Carrillian Peacekeepers. The protesters returned in force the following day in greater numbers. What happened was unclear. The protesters claim that the Peacekeepers openned fire into the crowd within seconds of ordering it to disperse. The Assembly claims that the protesters attacked the Peacekeepers in reaction to the order to disperse. Fifteen minutes later, 234 protesters were laying dead or dying on the tarmac. One of the dead protesters was the daughter of a Social Justice Party official.

The ensuing riots lasted two days, claiming over 2500 lives and well over 500 million Carrillian stellars worth of damages. The reprisals are considered to be the beginnings of the Ildrissar Rebellion. The incident became known as 'The Starport Massacre'.
