Club/Member News
by Mistybunny

As I sit here this month typing up the news that you all have sent me, its about 90 degrees with a humidex of about 105 degrees today. Boy, am I glad I have central air! Here is what is happening in the lives and clubs of our members.

bbr1964 (Brenre) wrote to tell us that some of the members of her group, Mom's and Grandma's Bragging Club (group) were meeting in person. "It's a get together reunion on the 28th of June. We're going to have an onlines friends reunion in Reno this year. It's our first one for all of the members in my club. We plan on having a similar get together in different place every year." The meeting was scheduled for June 28th through July 2nd. We'll hope she'll report back and tell us it was great.

Amonij sent us lots of information about PJ's Post Polio Support (Club), which is the # 1 Polio/PPS Club on YAHOO!

PJ's is proud to share that two of her members have been in the news lately. Jo was interviewed by CBS on Monday June 4th, shown on CBS Evening News with Dan Rather. You can read the interview here, The Curse Of Polio Lingers (http://www.cbsnews.com/now/story/0,1597,294984-412,00.shtml)

Maria, a member from Mexico has been helping the government and medical community understand about the situations associated with PPS, and what they can do to help those afflicted. Maria was interviewed Monday June 18th on the Mexican TV health program. She hopes she helped enlighten her people about POST POLIO and the after effects.

On a strange note, Amonji reports: "We have had to make many changes due to those that find pictures of disabled ladies attractive with braces, wheelchair's and other equipment." Members at PJ's have been up in arms over a group that has been joining Polio/PPS clubs and groups for the sole purpose of collecting photos. A new UNLISTED club for Photos was formed and is going great. Many had pulled their pics off the club site when this alarming trend became apparent but are now filling albums with their favorite pictures again.

PJ's has many ideas in the works, and committees are being formed to fill the needs of those with PPS. "Our members have a great kinship and have shown wonderful support to those that have had lost loved ones recently. Our hearts and prayers to each."

Post Polio Syndrome has been in major newspapers all over the world due to so many being diagnosed with this crippling disability. It is estimated that one in five people know someone who had polio. If you know someone that has Polio/Post Polio Syndrome who is in search of support, have them contact us at: pjspps@yahoo.com or check out PJ's Personal Homepage at http://msnhomepages.talkcity.com/SupportSt/amonij/.

Pgracelyn sent this information regarding the Black Single and Looking Over 40 (unlisted; club and group).

We just hosted our first two-day event this past weekend. It was the Mississippi Gulf Coast Beach Party. It was held in Gulfport, MS. We attended events in Biloxi and Longbeach MS....all on the MS Gulf Coast. It was fun and we bonded as friends. Two of four founders attended and we decided to sponsor two more events in Georgia and Texas. We represent all states.

The founders continue to communicate with its members about the club to group conversion and any Yahoo news that may affect them.

To keep the club and group from being boring....we redesign the founder's home page occassionally for a diffent look and post all important details there as well. We also redesiged the logos.

If you are interested in membership in this club or group, you may contact them through their webpage located at http://www.oocities.org/blacksingleandlookingover40/.

For the past year, ArrylT has struggled hard trying to balance school, work, a social life, and online interests--sometimes, less successfully than at others. In the process, he hasn't always been able to give CFC the time it requires or deserves. In April of this year, he removed himself as chief founder, hoping that the position would default to AngelPie_Mouse although he hoped to retain administrative status and was reinstated as co-founder. This week, however, he has decided that it is time to stepdown from the CFC administration team altogether. We hope this does not indicate that he is leaving Yahoo! clubs as well.

Please know, there was no disagreement and no animosity involved although we teased him a lot about not being with us as much as he ought to be. He holds out the hope that in a year from now things may work out differently. We will continue to keep a light burning and a seat open on the CFC admistration panel in the event of his return. But, for now...we wish him all the best of luck in the world and hope that he will keep in touch.

Club/Group Successes!

Congratulations ruhdwulf and the membership of the Joseph Campbell Mythology Group (Club), who passed a milestone mark of 400 members this past month and celebrated their second year anniversary online. "This group is for anyone interested in mythology, symbols, dreams, alchemy, the mythic path... the mythology being ever born anew in pop culture and everyday life."

You can check out the club at: http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/josephcampbellmythologygroup or visit their homepage at: http://www.oocities.org/Athens/Sparta/9277/.

Also, celebrating a member milestone, blazing_ks_fire's ADD/ADHD Support (Club). Featured on CFC during the week beginning Monday, June 18th, the Yahoo! club has passed the 200 member mark!

Magoo_ns says "It's hard for me to believe, but my Dambusters club was one year old on May 13. I'm delighted with the 65 members I have, none of whom have been anything less than fantastic. I've learned so much about my late father's squadron over the last year due to these great people. Hopefully, we've also managed to help some members learn about this incredibly brave group of aviators. I've recently found a treasure trove of papers and photos relatiing to Dad's two tours with 617 and have begun posting them to the clubsite. I also hope to scan his entire logbook and post it as well. It's a sobering experience to read his entries, sometimes 6 and 7 nights in a row of undoubtedly terrifying flights over hostile country, sometimes damaged, sometimes with wounded on board. One raid against the battleship Tirpitz, sister to the Bismark, involved 12 hours in an unheated, unpressurized Lancaster. In this era of relative peace, it's hard to imagine giving up your youth for your fellow man, but that's what they did. Per Ardua, Ad Astra!"

Congratulations to you all! -- CFC.

bbr1964 (Brenre) would like to share the following: "I do have a few good news bits. First, I became a Grandma for the first time. My oldest daughter gave birth to a daughter, Mallory on June 8th. She weighed in at 7lbs 11 oz's and was 19 1/2 in. long. And, my youngest daughter is also pregnant. She's not due until October 23rd (editor's note: Great day for a baby; it's Mistybunny's birthday too!). Her ultrasound showed that she is having a girl too. Being a first time grandma is wonderful!"

Lane_ware wrote to announce the following: "My divorce is final; and I am now the proud owner of a small Internet Service Provider business." [How about a few more details, Lane_ware? Maybe, we can hustle you up a few subscribers?]

Mistybunny's daughter completed and passed her Grade 2 ballet exam. Amanda has been dancing for 8 years now. Congratulations to her!

NOWAYWINS' son, who just turned three-years-old, recently "graduated" from his first year of pre-school. Also, Mr. & Mrs. NOWAYWINS found out that the baby they are having, due September 22nd, is a girl.

And now a short commercial message:

Hi Everyone:

I don't really like doing this .... but my daughter Amanda's ballet/dance studio needs some help.

They have produced a really nice cookbook as a fundraiser. I saw the book today and am very impressed with it. Unfortunately they have at least 300 of these books left to sell.

So......I am asking if there is ANYONE out there that could use another cookbook? Cost for the book is $8.00 but would "probably" be about $10 Canadian to cover postage and the envelope for mailing. I haven't figured out US postage yet, so if you're interested and are from the states, just email me at mistybunny@yahoo.com before September 3, 2001 (Labor Day).

My daughter and I appreciate your help.

Thanks
Gwen (Mistybunny) & Amanda

Birthday wishes go out to magoo_ns & to ruhdwulf who celebrated their birthdays on June 20th. I'd mention their clubs at this point, but had significant milestones this month or were otherwise already mentioned above. Many happy returns of the day though, guys!

Also, birthday wishes go out to Mistybunny's daughter who turned 11 on June 23rd, and to NOWAYWINS son who turned 3 on June 19th. All these June babies? hmmm?

HAPPY ANNIVERSARY

AngelPie_Mouse and her hubby, Bobwiser celebrated their twentieth wedding anniversary on June 14th. "We went to the new California Adventure theme park at Disneyland," said AngelPie_Mouse, "and then out to dinner." According to the mouse-person, "the best part about being married so long is that you get to start dating all over again without all the anxiety of trying to impress anyone. It's just for the fun of being with each other, and you can be as silly as you wanna be."

AngelPie_Mouse is chief founder of Yahoo! Club Founders' Club, Holidays Observed (Club), feelin' groovy (Club), and Yahoo! Group of Groups (Group), and co-moderator in CFC_Experimental (Group).

Special Bulletin

Last issue, our member nationalconvention of Canadian Moms Alive asked us to post a special bulletin about a missing child. It's our sad duty to report that the child is no longer missing. The body of five-year-old Jessica Koopmans was found on May 11, 2001. She was murdered. Police are reportedly holding a suspect. Funeral services for Jessica Koopmans were scheduled to take place Friday, May 18. Her parents ask that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to Child Find Alberta.

That, unfortunately, does not end the story, however. In a sad twist of irony, an e-mail originally sent out to ask people to help in finding her continues to circulate. Making matters worse, some sick and very twisted individual has attached a computer virus to one version, according to the Edmonton Journal.

Software and Technical Review

HTML Lesson Three: Definition Lists
by AngelPie_Mouse

Last issue, we discussed two of the list commands ordered list: <ol> and unordered <ul>, both of which begin subordinate items with the tag list item <li>. We mentioned that there was a third list type called a definition list <dl>, but did not discuss this command because it has a slightly different subordinate command structure. It uses the tags define term <dt> and definition description <dd>.

Sample Code:

<dl>
<dt>Yahoo! Club Founders' Club</dt>
<dd>An online community of club founders and group owners and moderators unitied by an interest in helping each other create better clubs and groups.</dd><p>
<dt>CFC_Experimental (Group)</dt>
<dd>A subsiderary group of Yahoo! Club Founders' Club designed to help club founders and group owners and moderators new to the evolving group interface acquire knowledge and experience with the various features of the merged club/group system.</dd><p>
<dt>Yahoo! Group of Groups</dt>

You will note that the <dt> command set results in a carriage return when the </dt> is encountered. Note too, the <dd> command set begins on the next line and indents five character spaces. All material within the set will continue to be indented until the </dd> is encountered. That is: it will line wrap to this margin set for multiple lines or paragraph structures within the definition.

Can you nest definition lists? Yes, instead of beginning the next line with the

tag, use a second
. It will indent all material that follows five (5) character spaces.

Can you mark definition lists with a bullet or number? Yes. In fact, it is possible with this list form to use your own graphics or other type face characters to highlight the list.

The line spacing between the term and the definition is a result of the difference between the text height and the graphic height. In this case, all the graphics are the same height and width. If you use graphics of differing heights or widths, your text will print or spacing will be proportional. Likewise, a different size font will render different results from that pictured here. []

A Founders' Tip

Hello, fellow founders:

Here's a short tip for those of you who have clubs or groups with more than one administrative member (founder, owner, co-founder, moderator): create an unlisted conference club or group for your administrative team only. Having a meeting place where you can leave messages, save information not for public viewing, or have chat sessions and discussions about member problems or goals and strategies can be a real boon. In such a private space, you talk out misunderstandings between you as adminstrators outside of the viewing of your members. You can vent frustrations and be as nasty as you wanna be about members who seem too slow on the uptake of information or give each other pep talks. You can set up trial color schemes and art, post revamps of your founder message, preview letters without committing to them.

Do we of CFC have such a hideaway? You betcha. Am I going to tell you what we call it? No way. A secret place is a secret place. It does exist, and in it we do all of the above as well as give ourselves permission to talk off topic. Why don't you create one for yourself and see just how much fun and useful it can be.

NOWAYWINS

As well as being co-founder of Yahoo! Club Founders' Club, NOWAYWINS is owner/moderator of CFC_Experimental, co-founder in Shelties (Club) moderator in Shelties_Club (Group), and and Yahoo! Group of Groups.
