"Christmas is coming; |
It seems the retailers begin the all out campaign for your sales dollar a little earlier every year. You can't really blame them. They usually accrue enough in revenue during the Christmas season to remain in business the rest of the year. There's a lot riding on that sweater vest for Dad and the gloves for Aunt Martha. And yet, somehow, the only time Christmas trees and Halloween pumpkins ever seemed to have coexisted well together was in the Disney animation, A Nightmare Before Christmas, and then it was a story about the ghosties not wanting to give up the ghost.What do we do about it? Nothing. Just look at it as a social reality and get on with it. Why mention it? Ah, even with more than thirty days to the big event, there is reason for bringing up the subject of Christmas now. It's called variety.
See, every Christmas, we go to the same sites for egreetings, the same sites for online art, the same sites for music. It's another of those facts of life that not all of us have midiboards or the ability to create mp3s, not all of us work for Hallmark or American Greeting, and some of us are downright graphically challenged when it comes to digital art. We want a festive clubsite; we want to create a holiday webpage for our club members; we want to run special games and contests for the holidays; and we want to send out egreetings that don't look like the one we received. But, where's the variety?
Enter the CFC Christmas project. If we begin advertising now, we just might get you into it in time to produce something useful to all of us. No, we're not after your bucks; we're after your bookmarks. The idea is simple. Send us your tired bookmarks, and we'll create a new list which will include yours, but also a few you may never have seen before, ones you may wish to surf into and have a look around, borrow from, enjoy.
Here are the categories we're looking for:
You may include your own page or pages not produced by commercial entities, if you like, or go for the big guys. Among other things, we'll rank the sites according to the most popular entries in category in a Top Ten List published in next month's newsletter, but we'll also publish the entire list on the CFC homepage. So, pull up your favorites now, check their validity (it was a year ago you last used them), and send them in.
- egreeting sites
- virtual gifts
- graphics and digital art (Christmas, of course)
- midi/sound files sites (Christmas carols)
- holiday sites (about Christmas)
Is there a prize? Yep, for every site you list up to ten (10) in category, you'll earn two (2) points. With five (5) categories, that's a possibility of one hundred (100) points. The person with the most points wins (prize to be determined) and in the event of a tie, the earliest entry will count. I think that means you better hurry up.

In the absense of members, we chatted concerning our own founder's message and the need for replacing it.

The term "thread" comes from the days of EBBs and Usenet/Newsnet. It refers to a series of posts, which may or may not be on topic but begin with the same subject heading. "Re:" on our message board can either be taken as "regarding" or "replying to," for example. Pointing to the beginning of a thread, you can sometimes gleen important bits of discussion pro and con on an issue, allowing you to make a more informed decision. We use the term a little more loosely in Yahoo! clubs, where a response can often be as much off topic as on.The main concern of this digest is to point to beginnings of threads or significant entries concerning them or important postings that you might want to visit again. We do not bring you the entire post--a complete repost would take far too much space. However, we do offer the entry number, the subject line, name of member posting, date, some overview of the content, and a list of related posts (if any) over a 30 day period (+/-) in the listing below.
