Adopt your MP now!

I've @dopted Mr Don Foster, MP for Bath!

The British Government in it's <clears throat> wisdom seems to think that it would be a good idea if everyone (both businesses and individuals) who encrypted emails were to give a government a copy of their private key, which will then be stored centrally, so that the government can read any encrypted messages you receive. Unlike existing legislation on, for example, phone taps, where the signature of the Home Secratary is required before the police are allowed to act, any local police inspector will have sufficient authority to ask for your key. Moreover, you will never be informed of the fact that you messages are being monitored - it will be illegal for the police to tell you so!

So, if you think the central storage of everyone's private key is a bad thing, or if you think that this is an invasion of your right to privacy, act now! A consultation paper is about to be published Once this comes out, there will be a 56 day period where you can tell your MP what you think of the legislation. Most MPs won't really have a clue - it's up to you to tell them that passing this law would be a bad thing.

To stop this from happening, @dopt your MP now
