MAT 436 : Nonparametric Statistics

In many cases, one is interested in making statistical inferences about parameters from distributions that are unknown. One strategy for analyzing such cases is to use distribution-free procedures or nonparametric procedures. This course surveys nonparametric alternatives to the standard parametric techniques studied in a first course in statistics. Topics include transformations to normality, sign test for pair comparisons, order statistics, and others. The emphasis is on situations where the use of parametric techniques are incorrect or at best marginal. Prerequisite : MAT 434, and MAT 437.
