it has been the weirdest couple of days.

the minnesota weather got nuts last night producing funnel clouds all over the state. a tornado touched down in granite falls injuring 13 and killing 1. there were tornado warnings in about 2 dozen counties and the weather moved in a slow front. from about 7 until 11:30 last night i was concerned. at one point brad and i went outside to check the sky and noticed the clouds had a quilted appearance. they looked like marshmallows packed together, extending down towards the earth. at that point we took a cue and moved the kids to the basement.

the two counties to our west were under tornado watch and we peered out our western windows at the non-stop lightening exploding in the sky. it reminded me of the grand finale at a firework showing, but it went on for hours. i don't think i've ever witnessed a stream of lightening so constant. at one point the wind began picking up and the news shifted its attention to us smaller counties down south. i made my way downstairs where i remained for about a half hour. better safe than sorry i suppose. brad stayed upstairs and watched for the most part. eventually the storms lost momentum and i came back up. another late night weather watch.

i got up a little later than expected this morning. on the way to work i hit a bird. you know those black crows that gather on the road scavenging whatever they can find. usually they are quick to disperse so i rarely slow down. today for some reason the big guy in my path didn't reach a safe height before i reached his location and he smacked into the grill of my truck tumbling onto the yellow line. it broke my heart. i hate to kill any living being....r.i.p., dear bird.

at work today i readied myself for lunch only to discover the absence of my car keys. yes, dear friends, they are sitting in the ignition, and of course i happened to park at a meter today. progressive has a guy coming out to get me in.......it's a featured full coverage part of their roadside assistance. unfortunately i called about 2 hours ago so my lunch was once again a bag of chips from downstairs...sigh. he should be here any minute and since i can't make phone calls until i hear from him i decided to blog.

the past 30 minutes i went through some back issues of the local paper checking on the placement of my companies ads. placement is key in reaching your market and since we run regularly it is my job to ensure we aren't getting suckered. i found a picture of a little girl about 8 with her arms wrapped around another girl probably about 3. they had just found the home of a friend demolished in yesterday's twister. i think i'll cut it out. a few pages later i turned to dear abby and read a letter from a lady talking about a situation she found herself in that resulted in kindness from strangers. while 7 months pregnant she was making a 5 hour trip when she became caught in a snowstorm. she pulled off the next exit and found the only hotel booked and the only restaurant wouldn't accept credit cards. she waited for the storm to clear, but eventually the roads were closed. a couple she met invited her to stay in their room with them and paid for her dinner.

i think i will begin cutting these things out and make a scrapbook. they lighten the heart and build the soul.
