i watch too much t.v. now that we have cable....the history channel....cnn....
more importantly i watch nick-at-nite. i used to relish the nights of falling asleep to mary tyler moore...and i taped part of the wonder years marathon...oh, and taxi. there's something about 70s television that lifts my soul. it's naive and loving and hopeful. even the commercials in all of their low-tech splendor add an air of childhood and innocence. it was a carefree time....
sprout is sleeping silently...cut to the jolly green giant as he slides a leaf over the tiny green's shoulders....quietly whispering his signature "ho ho ho" (yes, boys and girls, santa does not have exclusive rights to that line). a white cloaked mr. whipple politely asks the ladies in the store, "please....don't squeeze the charmin." and how can we forget the launderer with his charming wife revealing his "ancient chinese secret"?
so i cuddled up last sunday for the "make your own sunday" promotion. the prior week i had caught the tail end of it and the two times i voted they aired my choices. i was under the impression that i might very well be the only person voting...and i was happy to be able to play a hand in toppling the nightly showing of not one, but two episodes of three's company....sorry, but that show just doesn't have the right kind of humor. when brad and i reviewed our choices for the final time slot there was no question....wonder years should easily boot three's company and the jeffersons.....but when the decision was revealed i gasped......three's company was the certified winner....and remembering where i was....i vehemently demanded a re-count.
this week the nick-at-nite promoters have begun toting a new type of sunday. it's nick-at-nites t.v. dinners....episodes all about food. i can only conclude that there's a battle waging somewhere in tv land.....
