As you make your way into the porch
of Caliban's house you almost trip on something that is laying on the floor.
After you gain
your balance you look down to see what it was that had almost caused you
some serious damage. Laying on the floor is a Santa Cruz snowboard that
seems to have just been used for it is still covered with the odd amount
of glistening white snow. You pick up the board and place it against the
wall and you then notice a number of snowboarding posters hanging on the
wall. You are amazed at the unbelievable feats that are being performed
on these posters. You think to yourself how great it would be to strap
on a board and hit the powdery slopes of a mountain.
I was never a fan of winter sports so snowboarding was probably the last thing I would have expected myself to be getting involved in almost six years ago. I had skiied a few times with my high school phys-ed classes, but that was about the extent of it. To say the least, I was pretty crappy at skiing. I could not get those darn things to stop getting twisted together. I was an avid skateboarder during summer however and its vague similarities with snowboarding is the only reason I considered trying this new winter sport. My buddy spontaneously bought a snowboard in the summer of 1991 and I felt it was in my best interest if I bought one as well. I did just that.
After the first day on the slopes, I must tell you, I don't think I have ever been in so much pain in my life. My butt was extremely bad! I did not give up though. We continued to hit the slopes and we were soon flying down the hill at break-neck speeds! I have grown to love this sport and I believe it is one that I will not outgrow!

Hey, what is this on the floor. You now realize that you see a hacky-sack laying next to the snowboard. Would it not be great to go out on the lawn and do some hacking for a while?
