Dabblings in Politics

Yes, I like politics. That sets me apart from about 100 million Americans, right off the bat. Or at least that is the impression that I am getting. I must say that it can be boring at times, but what isn't? You have to admit that scandals are pretty exciting, at least they are until they have been discussed ad infinitum by the media. And when you go back to the origins of the U.S., then they are even more exciting. Maybe I'm just exceptionally patriotic. But politics is necessary.

And who's to say it can't be fun? I am a great fan of P.J. O'Rourke, whose book Parliament of Whores was on the bestseller list for many months around 1992. Read it, it's hilarious. There's a great section on why God is a Republican and Santa Claus is a Democrat.

More fun can be found with James Finn Garner's Politically Correct Bedtime Stories series.

I am also fond of historic documents. Whether they are government publications, essays, or literature, I'll read it.

Right now I'm involved in politics on different scales. I won a seat to the University of Colorado Student Union last April. School politics is like none other. But sometimes we degenerate into childlike, screaming arguments over small disagreements that have been blown way out of proportion. I'll try to help fix that, but I need everybody's help! As a UCSU member I'm also involved in the University of Colorado Engineering Council. These guys are all about getting along, which is very cool.

I am also involved in the CU College Republicans. Visit their web page--I built it. So that's not the best web page in the world either, but it serves. I was the CR secretary for a long time, then briefly the chair. It was a bit intense for me, so I voluntarily chose to demote myself to webmaster. But politics on a national scale is exciting, especially to an idealist like me who thinks she can change things. More on all that at some point, I promise.
