Rules
( Based on the book of Rules by FINA )
There are two types of fouls in Water Polo: lenient fouls (90% of the total of common fouls) and grave fouls, which are severely penalized.
LENIENT FOULS
To touch the ball with both hands.
To submerge the ball when it is in dispute.
To prevent the opponent from playing.
To push the opponent.
To fail from attacking during the offensive time of 35 seconds.
This kind of foul results in free shots by the opponent. The player must immediately effectuate the shot to another player whenever the foul has occurred between the 7 meters line and the goal. If the foul is committed before the 7 meters line he can shot directly to the goal.
GRAVE FOULS
To splash the opponent's face with water.
To interfere in a free shot caused by a foul.
To disrespect the referee.
Grave fouls result in expulsion. The player (or the substitute) will be able to come back after 20 seconds, when his team attacks or when a goal has occurred.
Each player can be expelled only twice. After the third foul he must be substituted. Punchs, kicks or any other kind of intentional agression will result in expulsion without substitution. The team shall play without the expelled player.
A penalty may occur when the player is swimming to the goal and suffers a foul in the area between the goal and the 4 meters line. The penalty shall be a free shot to the goal from the 4 meters line. In this case, the only players in game shall be the one who will shot and the goalkeeper.
PENALTIES
To push or pull the goal.
To touch the ball with both hands in the four meters area, except for the goalkeepers.
To submerge the ball in dispute in the 4 meters area.
To hold or pull a player in front of the goal in the 4 meters area.
