Things did not look good for North, as soon as the officials arrived. This match would be officiated by the same officials as the Morris Knolls match, a bad omen. In the 103 bout, the score was 6 to 1 after the first period. Mike Furnari took defense and to begin the second period, stood up and was slammed on his head (a non call) and as he lay unconscious, was rolled to his back and lost 3 back points before injury time was called. Mike used the entire 2 minutes and although still dizzy and blurred wanted to continue. He fought well to stay off his back but lost 12-3.
Ian Denlinger gave up 2 quick takes and was behind 4-1 after 1 period, but scored at the end of the third for a 7-5 victory. Eric Eisenhart got the quick take, and led most of the way through the bout, but was taken down with 20 seconds left in the third, and lost 6-4. Eric Balut attempted to get North started again with a fall at 1:49 of the first period. Bryan Wagner wrestled superbly in his match and won a 2-1 decision. Unfortunately, as North was getting on a roll, Voorhees big gun, John Brienza, stopped the bleeding for Voorhees with a pin at 1:38.
John Furnari countered this with a stong performance over Peder Sarsten. He scored a fall at 1:42 to put North back in the lead 18-13, their final lead of the Match. At 145, Scott Cox scored a fall over Paul Versarge, in 2:28, this was followed by Russ Perry's initial action of the 97-98 campaign. Unfortunately, hampered with the face mask and lack of mat time, he surcomed an 11-5 decision. Ken Brienza kept things going the Vikes way when he scored a fall at 2:42 over Mike Latino.
Justin Bagley wrestling up at 171 scored a fall over a much heavier opponent at 4:46. Unfortunately, Neil Picone lost a see-saw battle with Troy Beatty. Neil had Troy on his back in the first period for quite a while, but the officials say he was not pinned, and was reversed on put on his back. In the second, Neil took defense but Troy was able to put him on his back for a fall at 2:42. John Schiable came out and controlled Jeff throughout their bout. And at 1:21 of the third period was able to secure a fall to bring North to within 4 points, 34-30. Dave Mueller wrestled an inspired match, but was giving up too much weight. Tyson weighed all of 270 against Dave's 210. Tyson was able to wear Dave out an scored the fall at 4:37.
In the final analysis, you must say the Vikes outwrestled the Lions who could not muster enough momentum to take a commanding lead.

The Junior Varsity faired much better against these arch rivals.
