WCW/nWo Starrcade '98

--== Starrcade in Review by TBR Reporter Chris Reed ==--

<> As Schiavone, Heenan, and Tenay open up the show, we are told that Bischoff has demanded that all other Horsemen be escorted out of the building, to which Flair has agreed to, just to get his hands on Bischoff tonight.

<> --== Cruiserweight Title Match ==--
Kidman (c) vs. Rey Mysterio, Jr. vs. Juventud Guerrera
The show opens with a GREAT matchup as the first title is on the line. This match would have been much better placed later in the card instead of the opener. All 3 men were fghting from bell to bell, at least 15 minutes.
Eddy Guerrero finally comes down to ringside and knocks out Kidman for Juvy to roll up, but Rey Jr. dropkicks Juvy from the blind side, allowing Kidman to roll up Juvy and get the pin, retaining the belt.Eddy gets in the ring and chews out both Juvy and Rey Jr., mostly concentrating on Juvy. Eddy says if you want something done right, you have to do it yourself, and challenges Kidman to a match later tonight. Kidman comes back out and says they don't need to wait until later, they can do it right now, and the match begins.
- Kidman by pinfall, retains WCW Cruiserweight Title

Kidman (c) vs. Eddy Guerrero
Juvy and Rey Jr. stay at ringside, with Juvy in Eddy's corner, and Rey Jr. in Kidman's corner. Eddy was wrestling in street clothes, and even resorted to taking off his steel toed work boot to smack Kidman with it behind the ref's back. Kidman wrestled another great 20 minute match, and was exhausted by the end. Eddy's bodyguard comes out to try to get into the match, but the ref cuts him off, allowing Rey Jr. to shove Eddy off the top rope from a superplex attempt, setting Eddy up to fall victim to Kidman's Shooting Star Press, getting Kidman the second pinfall victory of the night.
WINNER -- Kidman by pinfall, retains WCW Cruiserweight Title

<> Norman Smiley vs. Prince Iaukea
I guess after 2 great fast-action matches like that, the crowd needs a snack run break, and it is supplied nicely with this match. "Boring" chants less than 2 minutes into the match, echoed in heart by this reporter. Total waste of a pay per view match, and after about 15 minutes of a yawning, one-sided match later, Smiley locks in his Norman Conquest submission to end the match, gathering great applause from the fans, not for the match, but for the fact that it was over.
- Norman Smiley by Submission

<> Scott Hall
Scott Hall comes out to the ring, wearing an old Outsiders shirt. Hall talks about his problems this past year, and then offers his words of enthusiasm to Kevin Nash on the title match later tonight.

<> "The Cat" Ernest Miller vs. Perry Saturn
Miller starts off with his usual "How To Win Friends And Influence People" speech, and then goes into his "most dangerous athlete" speech, getting nailed in the back as he did the 5 count. After debating leaving a few times,Miller finally enters the ring and gets run over by Saturn. Basic match technique seemed to go like this -- Saturn beats up on Miller, turns his back when Onoo distracts him, Miller gets in some cheap shots, and then gets beat up by Saturn again. Finally, after about 10 minutes of this,Miller holds up Saturn for Sonny Onoo to come in to the ring and try to get in a cheap shot. As Onoo went for a flying thrust kick,Saturn moved, and Onoo hit Miller. Miller yelled at Onoo and kicked him out of the ring, then turned around into the waiting arms of Saturn who lifted him up and down with the Death Valley Driver, winning the pinfall.
- Perry Saturn by pinfall

<> Ric Flair
Mean Gene Okerlund interviews Ric Flair at the entranceway area. Long interview short,Ric promised that even with no other Horsemen in the building, he would still kick Bischoff's ass. It is followed by video footage of Eric Bischoff's involvement with NWO and Ric Flair, leading up to the heart attack and attack by Bischoff on the Flair family.

<> Buff and Poppa
Scott Steiner and Buff Bagwell are shown invading Konnan's locker room. They tell him that Luger is safe around them, but Konnan is fair game. Konnan is about ready to attack them, when Luger runs in and breaks them up.
Schiavone announces that the World Title match tonight between Kevin Nash and Goldberg has been made a no disqualification match. The doorway just opened up way wide for a Bam Bam Bigelow interference.

<> Scott Norton and Bryan Adams vs. Fit Finlay and Jerry Flynn
Restroom/concession stand break number two of the night gets under way in this tag team match. Finlay and Flynn got in a couple of moves, but the power team of NWO members Norton and Adams was just too dominant. Finlay actually held his own for a while with Adams, but not for long, getting double teamed by NWO for most of the match. Flynn was finally tagged in about 12 minutes and put out on fire, but Vincent got up on the apron to distract Flynn. As he did, Norton ran Flynn over with a huge lariat, powerbombed him, and got the win for team NWO.
- Norton/Adams by pinfall

<> Bischoff on the Mic
Mean Gene Okerlund is back at the entranceway to interview Eric Bischoff.Bischoff apologizes for how badly he will have to beat up Flair tonight.
Video footage of Chris Jericho's tirade from Nitro 2 weeks ago is shown, leading up to the next match.

<> WCW Television Title Match -- Konnan (c) vs. Chris Jericho
Jericho comes out wearing the TV Title belt he stole last Monday and tells the crowd how he is their real champion. After Konnan comes in and does his usual crowd hype, we finally get under way. Great match to begin things with, as Jericho gets the early advantage with some of his usual cheap shots. As Jericho went for a Liontamer, Konnan countered by holding on to the legs, but he was slingshot into the corner instead.
Jericho charges and misses, allowing Konnan to get some shots in, and as the ref tries to break them up, he gets shoved down by Konnan, allowing Jericho to pick up the nearby TV belt and smack Konnan with it. Jericho makes a cover, but Konnan kicks out after a long 2 count. Jericho then whips Konnan into the ropes, but Kon- nan reverses it,kicks Jericho in the guts, and hits his face plant slam. That stunned Jericho long enough to be put into the Tequila Sunrise, getting the win for Konnan.
- Konnan by submission, retains WCW Television Title

<> Ric Flair vs. Eric Bischoff
Definitely the fan favorite match so far of the night, as Ric Flair wrestled for his family and his pride. Flair was all over Bischoff, hitting him with low blows and everything else you could think of. Bischoff got in a few nice kicks, including one that busted Flair open, but the match was almost all Flair. About 10 minutes into the match, the ref gets knocked out by Flair, but he continues to beat on Bischoff, finally locking in the figure four. From the rampway, Curt Hennig comes down, tosses in a roll of tape to Bischoff who smacks Flair out cold with it. He rolls on top of Flair and pulls the referee over, getting the pinfall and the win.
- Eric Bischoff by pinfall

<> The Giant vs. Diamond Dallas Page
DDP gets in the match early, but Giant's size and power turned the tide early and slowed the match down to a snail's pace. Giant hit DDP with everything under the sun, including a massive power- slam, and a choke lift into a backbreaker which had to be seen to be believed, but DDP kept getting up. After about 20 minutes of this punishment, DDP hit a float-over DDT a la The Rock, and as he covers Giant, Giant kicked out, knocking DDP into the ref. Bret Hart then comes out with a chair, swings, and hits Giant by mistake.
DDP gets rid of Hart and starts a comeback, but goes up top and jumps right into the waiting hand of Giant.DDP kicks Giant in the groin, but Giant shakes it off and puts DDP up top for the super chokeslam. As Giant lifts him off,DDP some- how reverses it in mid air into a top rope Diamond Cutter, rolls over, and gets the pin.
- DDP by pinfall

<> --== WCW World Heavyweight Championship Match ==--
Main event - Goldberg (c) vs. Kevin Nash -- No DQ rules
The 174-match win streak and the world title are all on the line as the most anticipated match of the night gets under way between Goldberg and Nash. Slow start as the two men felt each other out,but Goldberg slowly turns the tide into his favor. Just as quick, though, Nash uses his power moves, forcing Goldberg into the corner and hitting him with his elbow and knee lift shots, but when he went for the boot choke in the corner,Goldberg grabbed the leg and whipped him to the mat with a takedown. Goldberg then hit a spear about 10 minutes into the match, but as he picked him up for the Jackhammer, Nash counters with a low blow. Nash hits Goldberg in his side slam, but Goldberg kicks out. They go back and forth with more power moves, both men putting it all on the line.
For no reason at all, Disco Inferno makes a run in, and gets speared for his troubles. Then Bam Bam Bigelow makes a run in and gets knocked out by Goldberg. Topping it off, Scott Hall dressed in security clothes comes up on the apron and pokes Goldberg square in the chest with a cattle prod style tazer. Nash takes advantage, picks up Goldberg in the Jacknife, covers and gets the pin, ending the streak and becoming the new WCW World Heavyweight Champion.
- Kevin Nash by pinfall, Kevin Nash wins WCW World Title
