WCW MONDAY NITRO, live from Colubia Coliseum, in Columbia, SC: Saturn over Lizmark, Ernest Miller over Kaz Hayashi, Juventud Guerrera over Jerry Flynn, Wrath over Villano V, Hector Garza {x} Damian, Kidman over Psychosis, Rick Steiner over Brian Adams, Dallas Page over Kanyon; and Sting {x} Bret Hart.
HEADLINE NEWS: NWO Wolfpack was on the hunt last night. Upon arrival, the Wolfpack immediately rushed in and attacked random members of the N-W-Originals. Sting caught up with Bret Hart backstage and pounded him, which served as a harbinger for their match later that night.
- Then, the Wolfpack turned their focus on Hollywood's limo. They tore it apart from top to bottom. Sting turned it upside-down with a forklift Nash hammered the bottom of it with a sledgehammer, Sting slit the tires and, according to Larry Zbyszko, Konnan stole the hubcaps.
- After the limousine, Scott Hall was their prime target. The hunt was on for Scott Hall. They checked an empty restaurant, but the manager's kids were the only ones there. They checked another bar, but only a few patrons there. Apparently everyone in Columbia was attending WCW Nitro. Konnan suggested, "let's go check out the strip joints." "He ain't at no strip club," Nash explained, "he's been thrown out of every strip joint in the country." "So, let's go anyway." That would've been the only thing to save their ratings for this week, but they didn't go. Instead, they found Scott Hall at some rotted-down bar in the middle of nowhere, and Nash pounded Hall in the men's room; not that we could see it.
- The last man left was Bret Hart. The much-promoted contest never took place. In lieu of a worthwhile match, Bret Hart and Sting fought in a brawl backstage (just as they had earlier in the show). After five or six minutes of it, Nitro went off the air.
INTERVIEWS: Hollywood and Eric Bischoff came out to promote Halloween Havoc. (I'll call it what it really was, for once.) After making heat- rising comments to the Warrior, Hollywood went back to the lockerrooms, and Warrior appeared as a vision in the mirror (which we could see, and Hollywood could see, but Bischoff couldn't for some reason).
- Last time Buff Bagwell wrestled in the Coliseum, he suffered his neck injury. Rick Steiner had something special in mind for the "homecoming" and brought Judy Bagwell to the ring. Like all mothers, she reemed her son in front of everyone; saying, "10,000 fans wrote letters to you, and we read every one of them to you. What's wrong with you??" Well, for starters, it appears Buff Bagwell can't read. Anyway, Buff was slapped by his mother, then taken by the ear out of the arena.
- The Carolina Coliseum is undisputed Horsemen-Territory; however, Eric Bischoff was proud to announce that Flair would not be in attendence. Arn Anderson was quick to correct him, bringing out Reid Flair (Ric's 10-year-old son, for whom he missed his Thunder appearance last Spring). Reid did two takedowns on Bischoff before they cut to commercial. After the break, Bischoff got Beth Flair on the phone, and she had a few words for Bischoff as well. Then, The Nature Boy himself made his way to the ring. The N-W-Originals tried to assist Bischoff, but the Four Horsemen evened things up, and nothing new developed.
NOTABLE MATCHES: I'll lower my standards of what constitutes a notable match, and mention a couple of them. First, Hector Garza met Damian for a match, but they were both interrupted by Japan-bound Eddy Guerrero. He pointed out that the Latinos in WCW only fight against each other. So he revolutionized the Latino World Order (LWO). Was there a point?? Not that we've seen yet, but with men like Hector Garza & Damian, this angle is a sure-fire winner!! Not that I don't appreciate them.
- Brian Adams lost the match to Rick Steiner, when he was pinned with a Bulldog off the top rope. However, Brian Adams did fare much better than the last man to receive a Steiner-Bulldog from Rick in the Coliseum, so it was almost like a victory for him.
- Cruiserweight Champion Kidman successfully defended his title against Psychosis and made Psychosis look good in the process. Long live Kidman! Anyone that lets Psychosis show off his wealth of talent is great in my book, and as we all know, Kidman IS great. After the impressive showing from Psychosis, Kidman beat him with the Shooting Star Press.
SQUASH MATCHES: Saturn beat Lizmark with the Death Valley Driver. The Cat beat Kaz Hayashi with a Roundhouse kick, and after the match, Sonny Onoo followed him out. Juventud Guerrera beat Jerry Flynn in a match where Disco Inferno joined the Broadcast Team for commentary. Wrath took Villano V out with the Meltdown. Dallas Page beat Kanyon when Raven and Lodi caused the disqualification, and Goldberg made the save for their obligatory staredown to build the Halloween Havoc match.
