RAW IS WAR, precorded: D'Lo Brown over X-Pac, Headbangers over Insane Clown Posse, Vader lost to Marc Mero, Edge over Owen Hart (bye), Ken Shamrock over Kane, Val Venis over Gangrel (out), Jeff Jarrett lost to Al Snow (DQ), Road Dog over Mark Henry; and Rocky Maivia lost to the Undertaker.
HEADLINE NEWS: Vince McMahon was hospitalized last week at the hands of Undertaker & Kane. This week, he laid helpless at a remote, clandestine hospital, but they cut to him every chance they could. Fortunately, the scenes were entertaining enough to be worth watching.
- The first notable clip was when Vince McMahon had a "big guy" come to visit him. Mankind appared with balloons and a smile. He brought some female entertainment for Vince, which only turned out to be a clown. Together, Mankind and Debbie (and Mr. Sock-O) tried to loosen McMahon up but only riled him up more. He threw them out.
- In his other notable clip, McMahon was attacked by Steve Austin. Not anything we haven't seen before, or didn't expect. In fact, it only had two significant points. First, McMahon fired his help that was supposed to keep Austin away, so "Vince Screwed Vince." Second, it answered the timeless question "boxers or briefs." Little more than we needed to know about Vince McMahon, but now we know anyway.
OTHER NEWS: DX is having more and more problems, all further proof that "there is no greater adversity than one's own success." In the grand tradition of the EuroTitle and "precorded" shows, X-Pac dropped the belt to D'Lo Brown when Mark Henry smashed him against the ringpost, and D'Lo hit the Lo'Down for the pin. For a measure of revenge, X-Pac cost Mark Henry a match against the Road Dog. He did a headslam to Henry while the referee was distracted by Brown and Chyna.
- Undertaker and Kane tried to cost each other a pair of matches. As Kane ascended the ropes, the Undertaker stood on the apron, and Shamrock charged him. Undertaker moved out of the way, and Kane fell down and stradled the top rope. From there, Shamrock delivered a Super Belly-to- Belly Suplex for the pin. In the last match of the evening, Rock almost pinned the Undertaker for a second week in a row. With the referee out, Kane gave Undertaker a chairshot, then Rocky delivered the Rock Bottom. For some reason, Kane slid the chair into the ring, and as Rocky tried to revive the referee, Undertaker gave him a Tombstone onto the chair. Undertaker slid the chair back out of the ring and registered a pin.
- Owen Hart refused to face Edge and threw the match (via forfeit). On his way out of the arena, Michael Cole tried to get an interview with Owen, but Owen simply stated, "it's over." Most likely referring to his career and not the angle, for obvious reasons.
- Marc Mero pinned Vader with his Shooting Star Press (MarVelocity) in a match where Sable was guest commentator and announced her plan to seek a wrestling career in the WWF. After the match, Mero and Jacqueline cut a lock of Sable's hair.
- Val Venis defeated Gangrel by count-out when Edge tried to confront his younger brother Christian Cage. For those not familar with Christian Cage, he was once a tag team partner for Edge (aka Adam Copeland) but is not related to him. Pretty obvious; what parents would name one child "Christian" and the other one, "Edge." After the Gangrel/Edge fiasco, Goldust sent Val Venis a gold letter, then took over the TitanTron to announce his world premiere next week on RAW.
- Al Snow defeated Jeff Jarrett by disqualification when Commissioner Slaughter tripped Al Snow off the top rope.
