The Portlandian, the Internet's premier source of Tonya News

LET THEM EAT CAKE
Today is Tonya's birthday. According to a recent post on
alt.gossip.celebrities, Tonya shares her birthday with several
other famous people, including rocker Neil Young (1945), actress
Grace Kelly (1929), gymnast and fellow Olympian Nadia Comaneci
(1961), sculptor Auguste Rodin (1840), and last but certainly not
least, serial killer Charles Manson (1934).
Today marks a double anniversary: not only is it Tonya's
birthday, but it's also the second birthday of "The Portlandian".
Yes, for two whole years we've been pushing the Tonya cause on
the Net, much to the annoyance of the skating establishment who
wish that both us and Tonya would just dry up and blow away. But
we're not going to do that until Tonya is allowed the opportunity
to skate in front of her fans and the Great Skating Swindle is
exposed for what it is.
We've come a long way in two years. We now have our own Web site
and a large mailing list. This time has also seen the development
of at least half a dozen other Web sites fully dedicated to
Tonya, with large selections of messages, info, links and photos.
We've also revamped our own Portlandian area to make it easier to
read and indexed each issue so you can find stuff easier. Future
upgrades will involve converting all still-current URL's in the
issues in our archive into proper hypertext links.
And what better way to celebrate a birthday but with a cake? So
we thought we'd make one. You can see it at:

Happy Birthday Tonya!
THEY'RE POPPING UP ALL OVER THE PLACE - YES, ANOTHER TONYA SITE!
Following on from our recent report of a Tonya page in Norway,
another fully-fledged Tonya site is now on line. Long-time Tonya
enthusiast Charlie Main from New England (deep in the heart of
Kerrigan Kountry) now has his site up and running. A regular
poster to the Tonya newsgroups for several years, Charlie's site
boasts one of the most extensive collections of Tonya photos on
the Internet. Visit it at:
http://www.gwi.net/~cmain/
The story behind Charlie's site is an interesting one: he started
working on it back a couple of years ago when there were no other
Tonya sites on line that we were aware of - indeed, back even
before "The Portlandian" itself. Then Portland businessman Jim
Maxey started his Tonya site at www.tonyaharding.com (which is
now operated by Roy Edwards) and Charlie put his site on the back
burner. But he never totally abandoned the project, and continued
to work on the site on and off in his spare time. Now the results
are available for all to see.
VITAL STATISTICS
Recently we had a query from a visitor to our site about Tonya's
statistics:
> Sun Oct 4 08:14:46 1998
> SUBJECT:=Tonya's stats
> MESSAGE:=Just curious as to how tall she is and how much she
> weighs. I have noticed that the ice skaters are not very big.
Well, the answer can be found in the files of the Multnomah
County Sherrif's office. 5'1" (155 cm) and 105 lbs (47 kg)
according to her police record. We don't know what she weighs
now, though you may be aware she had a bit of enhancement done on
her upper body area about a year after her trouble.
HELL-OWEEN ON ICE - NOT!
Speaking of serial killers, recently we had the opportunity to
view the Halloween On Ice special, and boy, what a rip off! I
mean, where the heck was Michael Myers, slashing up skimpily
dressed bimbos with a chainsaw? Isn't that what any skating fan
would expect from something entitled "Halloween" on Ice?
Fortunately it's Friday the 13th tommorrow, so maybe there'll be
a "Friday The 13th On Ice" and we'll see what kind of job Jason
does...
