San Diego Padres starting pitcher Andy Ashby led the team in just about every pitching category in 1995. He compiled a team-high 12 victories, and he accumulated a team-high in strikeouts with 150. His 2.94 ERA was the best on the Padres staff and third best in the National League while his 192.2 innings pitched was second on the club.
Andy proved his breakthrough season of 1994 was no fluke, ripening into the Padre ace of '95 while ranking among the NL's SO leaders. Success did not come overnight. Though he was the Phillies' Minor League Pitcher of the Year in 1990, he persisted through a 6.77 ERA in his first 50 ML games before it all gelled.
