POINTS OF INTEREST
Andy achieved his first major league win vs. the Phillies, 8/23/89.
As a 15-year old, Andy was told he would never pitch again because of bone chips in his elbow. After a temporary switch to second base, he recovered sufficiently to accept a combo baseball/football scholarship to the U. of Evansville.
Andy found himself mired at 1-7 after his first 10 starts as a Cardinal, but then completely reversed the fortunes of his 1996 season. In a surge that finally ended in a shower of unearned runs on August 21st, he tore off 10 consecutive wins, the most by a St. Louis pitcher since John Tudor won 11 straight in 1985.
