POINTS OF INTEREST

Bret was signed as a 5th round Draft selection of the Mariners, June 8, 1990 by Scout Ken Compton. At USC he established career records of 166 Runs, 51 Doubles, 12 Triples, and 160 RBI. Made big league debut at Baltimore, 8/19/92
Few were surprised when Bret developed into a potent hitter--simply the Reds' best at 2B since Joe Morgan--but it has been his distinguished defense that has astonished scouts. Once considered marginal, he went nearly a year between errors (1994-95), handling 400 chances over 79 games without a miscue
