Andy is congratulated by Joe Girardi
Andy was a savior in New York's drive to the post-season in '95, compiling a 5-1 record during the crucial month of September. He led all AL rookies with 12 wins, a total that was most by a Yankee rookie starter since Stan Bahnsen won 17 in 1968.
After an excellent rookie season, Andy came through in '96, leading the AL in wins and helping the Yankees win the AL East Championship. In the process, he epitomized another definition of the word "stopper," going 13-2 in starts following a Yankee loss.
In '96 Andy became the first AL pitcher to win 15 games with a nine-hit effort in 4-2 win over Rangers 7/24/96.
