Goodwill Games Predictions!!!
My Thoughts On the Goodwill Games
All Around
Congratulations to Dominique Moceanu. I have never been a fan of her gymnastics. But I can admit when she has improved. While I think her scores on the beam (Two bobbles and a pretty big step)Floor and Vaults were really overscored. I do think she deserved her title.
I also think Maria Olaru and Simona Amanar deserved higher scores especially for Simona on Floor and Vault and Maria on Vault and Beam. Svetlana Khorkina's vaults should have been scored higher also. She had a 9.9 start value and a 9.8 start value but was scored in the 9.4's and 9.5's. See my vault comments for what I mean by this.
Vault! IMO But Elena Dolgopolova deserved this title. She had great Height, decent distance and great landings on both her vaults. One vault even started from a ten. Yet she was given scores in the 9.6 range. Vanessa Atler took steps on both her 9.9 vaults and was still given scores in the 9.6 range. She received very biased scoring in every routine she performed. Elena is the true vault Gold medalist.
Uneven BarsWhat can I say. Svetlana had her usual great routine and deserved her title. Elise Ray should have had points taken off for her landing on the UB but other wise she had a great routine. It is really to bad that Ling Jie fell on this event because she had the most beautiful Uneven Bars set that I have ever seen.
Balence BeamYevgenia Kuztesnova and Olga Teslenko both had incredible form and execution on their Beam routines and IMO Should have been given credit for that. Zeena Mchlaughlin also had an incredible routine that was very underscored. IMO They should have been the top 3 medalists on this event. Kristin Maloney had sloppy form and got a huge benefit of the doubt when it came to her connection bonuses.
Floor This is where my Biggest complaint of the Entire GWG comes. Vanessa Atler's first pass is great, and is done very well. But why should one difficult pass totally overlook the rest of the mistakes she made. Her dancing is not that great. The moves don't even go with the music. She also had a mistake on her double pike where she stumbled back at least 2 steps yet still received a 9.775. In My Opinion it is not fair of the judges to overlook all her mistakes, unfinished dance moves and reward her for one pass. Corina Ungeranu had great tumbling, landed very well, great execution, and an Incredible Overall presentation. Her routine deserved to be shown on Television.
If I was the judge, These would be where I would of had the Results
All Around- Same-
Vault- GOLD- Elena Dolgopolova Silver-Adrian Varga Bronze- Simona Amanar
I Re-watched this again and have since changed my opinion. I re watched Vanessa Atler's Vaults and have decided that she did not deserve a medal at all. Her Vaults are usually done much better then this. Those landings were horrible. She took like two steps on that second one.
Bar's- GOLD- Same
Beam- GOLD- Yevgenia Kuznetsova SILVER- Olga Teslenko BRONZ- Simona Amanar or Zeena Mclauglin
Floor- GOLD- Corina Ungeranu SILVER- Simona Amanar BRONZE- Zeena Mchlauglin
