I would like to hereby apologize to a Vincent K. McMahon.
You see, during Russo's tenure as WCW's head writer, I became overzealous. WCW was good again, and I took every chance I got to bash Vince McMahon. I'm now eating my words. Why? WCW sucks again. It sucks even worse than it did during the darkest days of Bischoff's insanity.
It's been a month today since the new booking team led by Kevin Sullivan put together their first show. What a ride downhill it's been. Chris Benoit, Dean Malenko, Perry Saturn, and Eddy Guerrero have already left WCW and had an incredibly successful debut in the WWF. Shane Douglas and Chris Kanyon are now on their way out. Hogan and Flair stepped up in a hurry and took their positions near the top of the card back. Scott Hall is seemingly trying to get fired by WCW management, is acting irresponsibly, and is being a cancer to backstage moral. So WCW goes and puts him in the main event for SuperBrawl 2000. That just goes to show you how screwed up this once great company once.
WCW is doing a horrible job now. They push the Wall to the moon, when nobody likes him. They put tons of jobbers on television and don't care if they lose their fans. It's pretty pathetic that WCW will die not by a crushing blow by the WWF but by killing themselves. You don't just release guys that are unhappy, you see why so many guys are unhappy and fix the problem. Of course, it appears Sullivan is never going to be removed as head booker if Bill Busch stays in charge. And Mr. Busch will have WCW destroyed (as in no longer a company) by Slamboree 2000 if something isn't done in a hurry. Not that WCW cares. They don't care about their fans anymore. Russo was the one who cared about the fans. All Kevin Sullivan, JJ Dillon, and Hulk Hogan care about is satisfying their own personal egos until they burst into orgasmic pleasure. Bill Busch is practically these guys' monkey slave. It's disgusting.
Meanwhile in the WWF, you have a company that cares about the fans. They seem to do everything right about 95% of the time, and the product is much easier on the eyes (how can the WWF have better production than a Time Warner company? Sheesh!). They now have Benoit, Malenko, Saturn, Guerrero (the Radicals), and Jericho; all favorites of mine in WCW. Not to mention great entertainers, interesting storylines (compared to the Maestro and the Cat), Stephanie McMahon (who I have a major crush on, but that's beside the point), and no Hulk Hogan. Now which company do you think is more appealing?
I'm a WCW diehard. However, even I can only take so much. If WCW doesn't care about their fans and wants to satisfy personal egos that cause the company to implode, that's fine by me. Because in a week or two you'll have lost me for good. And I vowed I would never betray WCW. Congrats Bill Busch, you did something Eric Bischoff never could in his slump. Turn me away from WCW after one month.
So I'm sorry Vince McMahon. You clearly know how to treat your fans, and appear to have a solid grip on your company. WCW could learn a thing or two from you.
Note: I'm sorry for the negative tone of this column. I wanted to wait and write one after I had something positive to say about WCW, but I just couldn't. I had too much anger built up inside against the people running the company. I know I practically praised the WWF on an anti-WWF website, but you know what? It doesn't matter anymore. WCW is just shoving it's fans up north, and I'm one of them.
