BO'NESS UNITED 2-4 MOTHERWELL (0-2 HT)

A third consecutive friendly defeat for Bo'ness, but there were at least some positive aspects to this performance against a useful Motherwell XI. It was another disappointing first half outing, however, with Motherwell appearing streets ahead of their hosts. A fine headed finish put Motherwell deservedly in front, and their lead was doubled before the break with the home defence looking worryingly vulnerable, as they had against Raith.
With Motherwell's third goal bringing on fears of a rout, Bo'ness stepped up their game impressively. The fact that the match appeared to be in the bag might have led the young visitors to relax somewhat, but Bo'ness deserved credit for using the extra space they were finding in midfield. Greig Hodge, whose recent seasons have been wrecked by injury, was coming into his element, pulling the strings as Bo'ness at last began to threaten meaningfully. Trialist (9) stabbed in from close range on around 65 minutes to reduce the deficit, and Jamie Loney lobbed the stranded goalkeeper nicely minutes later to raise hopes of a draw.
Not that these hopes lasted long - Motherwell shortly after added their fourth, at which point the contest was effectively killed off. Another loss, then, but a twenty minute period of splendid football from Bo'ness in the second half at least gave some indication of potential.
