BO'NESS UNITED 1-3 RAITH ROVERS (1-0 HT)

Bo'ness were desperately disappointing in this, their first home friendly of the pre-season, going down tamely to a largely youthful Raith side which also included Kenny Black and manager Peter Hetherston. Excuses could be made for the poor outing - the BUs had been playing the previous night in a friendly at Bannockburn Amateurs (now coached by ex-Newtown favourite Jimmy Burns), but the reality was that it was an insipid performance long before fatigue set in during the second half.
Despite being overrun in the middle of the park, the home side remarkably went in at the interval with a 1-0 lead, courtesy of a delightful chip over the onrushing goalkeeper from Trialist (10), after he had been released be Jamie Loney.
Justice was done in the second half, however. Within fifteen minutes of the restart the visitors had the lead - first equalising through a raid down the right, and then taking the lead after Bo'ness goalkeeper Neil Binnie was robbed of the ball outside of his area. It was a crazy mistake from a player who had been one of the better United players on show in the first half.
Given the quality of the Bo'ness performance, this match was effectively over the minute Raith took the advantage. A third goal duly came later on, again coming down the right flank, to put the contest beyond question.
A good performance from the SFL First Division club, but there was little to encourage the home fans or manager.
