Rangers TargetsGeorg Koch
Georg Koch
Rangers are also believed to be stepping up their interest in Fortuna Dusseldorf 'keeper Georg Koch. Koch, under contract until June 1998, is rated as the top goalkeeper on the Bundesliga and would cost Rangers in the region of £2.5 million. A number of clubs have been tracking the player but his friend Jorg Albertz has recommended a move to Ibrox.
Fortuna Dusseldorf goalkeeper Georg Koch has issued a come and get me plea to Rangers. Walter Smith and goalkeeping coach Alan Hodgkison watched the 25 year old captain his side to a 1-1 draw with Duisburg on Friday night. Koch has a year of his contract left to run but he has a get out clause in his contract if Dusseldorf are relegated and they currently languish in third bottom spot in the Bundesliga. If they drop Koch will be a free agent.
Rangers have clinched the signing of Fortuna Dusseldorf 'keeper Georg Koch. It is thought Rangers tied up the deal because they were willing to pay £2 million even though Koch had a clause in his contract which would have allowed him to leave Fortuna if they are relegated. They are presently third bottom of the Bundesliga from which three are relegated. Koch is highly rated in Germany and a good friend of Jorg Albertz.
Rangers have agreed a fee for Fortuna Dusseldorf 'keeper Georg Koch. Koch will travel to Glasgow as soon as the German season ends this month.
The jinx once again appears to have returned. Fortuna Dusseldorf 'keeper Georg Koch who has signed a pre-contract agreement with Rangers broke his hand against Schalke 04 at the weekend. It is only a hairline fracture but Koch has been told he requires an operation to repair the damage immediately. Koch should arrive in Glasgow in the next week and providing his wife likes the city he will sign a five year contract at Ibrox.
Georg Koch has finally rejected a move to Rangers because he claims his wife doesn't fancy living in Scotland. David Murray said, "I am disappointed that he decided not to come because we received two or three faxes from his agent saying he would be on his way. It dragged on and on and I smelled a rat when we contacted him and said we'd send the private jet that took Lorenzo Amoruso back home to pick him up. Still he didn't come and eventually we got the fax saying he was staying put. We have been led on."
Georg Koch revealed one of the main reasons he rejected a move to Ibrox was his son'd schooling. He said, "I have to think about Tobias. He is four years old and due to start kindergarten. The next few years are going to be very important for him. Schools in Germany offer an excellent standard of education, one which I do not believe could be matched in Scotland. Rangers made me an excellent offer. They are a massive club. I have decided to join PSV Eindhoven because it will allow me to live in Germany and make an hour long journey to Holland each day."
Koch added, "football and money aren't everything in life. I also have the well-being of my family to think of. I married Regina to make her happy and I'm not sure that would be possible if we were to live in Scotland. She would have to leave all her friends in Germany and would often be left all alone with our son when I was away."
