Rangers have tabled a £2.75 million offer for Rosenborg defenders Erik Hoftun and Staale Stensaas. The offer was faxed to Norway yesterday. Rosenborg chairman Nils Skutle said, "we would rather not sell them as a package. This offer shows Rangers mean business but we are not in a hurry."
Norwegian champions Rosenborg have cleared the way for Rangers to sign central defender Staale Stensaas. They expect to hear from Rangers over the next week to begin discussing a definite fee for the player.
Rosenborg have warned Rangers that they may miss out on defender Staale Stensaas. Smith has held talks with Rosenborg about the full back but Director Rune Bratseth warned, "we are waiting for further contact from Rangers but they are not the only club interested."
Staale Stensaas is expected in Glasgow today for signing talks. Walter Smith sees Stensaas as the ideal replacement for David Robertson who joined Leeds Utd earlier this month.
Lorenzo Amoruso and Staale Stensaas signed for Rangers yesterday. Amoruso signed a five year contract and Stensaas pledged his future to the club for the next four years.
26 year old left back Stensaas joined from Rosenborg for £1.75 million. Stensaas played a large part in the Norwegians Champions League run this season and admitted he would like more success at that level. He said, "It wasn't difficult to decide to join Rangers. They are a very big club and I wanted to try something new. As a youngster I watched Rangers on TV so I know about the club and what they have achieved. I also realised that the fact Rosenborg played in the Champions League would make the players targets but this really is a dream come true for me."
He added, " I am also looking forward to playing with Brian Laudrup and Gazza, who are two of my favourite players. Rangers have been winning in Scotland for the last nine years and it is time to do the same in Europe. And with all the new players coming to the club I think we'll do well in the Champions League. As far as the league championship is concerned I know what to expect. Rosenborg are the big club in Norway so I was used to teams giving 120 percent to try and beat us, the same as happens at Rangers.
