Lightning started the tournament in top form and in their first game
against Galaxy captured a well deserved victory scoring three times
and allowing two goals one of which was from a PK. On the second game
they challenged a much stronger team the Top Dogs and were unfortunate
not to clinch the victory in a very well fought match.
The kids wanted to have fun and being in the city of Mickey, Pluto,
Goofy and Donald Duck couldn't resist to pay a visit to their loved
animated cartoons, in live, in their home land and at least 10 of the
squad went to Dysneyland and came back very late that night.
Next day, the fatigue and the psycology of the game was
not there and not in the best concentration the kids use to have.
The first game
started not to well and Galaxy scored first. Lightning tied two times
but Galaxy pressure and counter attacks today was superior finding a
flat defence and to make things even worst by the end of first half
lost Robby after he was striked heavily. Without Robby Lightning had
really hard time to control Galaxy and the final result was devastating.
In the next Game againt Top Dogs, Lightning scored the first but minutes
later
a penalty kick tied the score and from this moment on Lightning could not
recover Top Dogs pressure and the few scoring chances
for Lightning were well controlled by a strong Top Dogs defense.
Lightning suffered the absence of JC that stayed home with a bad cold and
with Robby ancle sprain from the second game made things even worst.
Lightning demostrated that they can challenge strong teams and
with a complete squad and a good rest could have top them. They play class
soccer the first two games when they were concentrate and focused on the
competition. The distraction of the amusement and the fatigue after been
going from rides to rides at Disneys Park and going to sleep late took a toll on
their chances, without counting the injuries and a defensive key players missing
from the game. It has been a good experience being the first time ever for
the team to travel together.The park and amusement could not have been denied
to them after a brilliant league season, undefeated and taking first place.
Only once you can do this things and considering their ages the fun and the
experience will be combined in a positive attidude for future events when they
will realize the importance of the Rest and Early Bed Time before a final
competition game(s).
