John got his first formal training in the Boy Scout Troop 911 merit badge program.
He started competitive shooting at the Central Florida Rifle and Pistol Club
monthly matches. He was the Florida State Muzzleloading Rifle Association Junior
Champion in 1994, 95, and 96 and he was also the National Muzzleloading Rifle Association
Territorial Champion in 1994 and 95.
He began training in Smallbore Rifle in the Central Florida Rifle & Pistol Club Junior
program late in 1994.
Shooting as a Sub-Junior and Intermediate-Junior, he has had class/catagory wins at:
- Florida State Smallbore Prone Championships 1995,96
- Southeastern Smallbore Metric Prone Regional Championships 1996,97
- Southeastern Smallbore Conventional Prone Regional Championships 1996,97
- Sawgrass Championships 1996,97
- Medaled in the Florida Junior Olympic Rifle Championships in Smallbore, International Air
Rifle, and Air Pistol
- Junior Sectionals 1997
- State Champion in the Florida Junior Metric Prone State Championships
- Won numerous class and category awards in the FSSA Junior league in Smallbore, Int'l
Air Rifle, and Smallbore Pistol
- Competed in Camp Perry National Matches in 1996 & 97. Placed well in 1996 and
placed 3rd Expert and 3rd Intermediate Junior in 1997 winning first Intermediate
Junior Expert.
In addition to his shooting, John is active in the Boy Scouts and the Order of
the Arrow. He plays trumpet in the West Orange High School band. He trains and
competes in dog agility with his dog Sandy. He serves as an acolyte of St. Luke's
Cathedral in Orlando.
