Melissa A. Evans

I shall keep this short and sweet, just like all my time shooting; okay, so all of it hasn't been so sweet. I started shooting at age 13 with the junior club at Everglades Rifle & Pistol Club. I have now been shooting for 3 years (that makes me the "baby" of the group). The road to Nationals, where I am now, has not been easy.

There have been many hours of practice, buckets of sweat, and many tears shed. I have shot in the states Jr. matches, as well as, the Sunshine State Games with John, Brent, and Danielle, and others have been without them, like the Great Lakes State Games for example.

Honestly, I haven't shot a lot and I am still working on perfecting things in comparison to the others, especially on learning to relax under match pressure. I was the only Marksman on the team, and previously I was never able to break 1500. Well, I've shot a personal best, 60 points higher than the one before, and only room for improvement. In the prone part of the championships I ranged anywhere from 2nd, which was in the 100 yard match, all the way down to 14th.

All in all, it was a great time had by all - I think- and I know I'm looking forward to next year to see all the friends I've made here.

Melissa Evans,
Age 16
