Kaientai vs. Headbangers/Taka
The more and more I see Kaientai, the more I begin to think Taka is the
most overrated wrestler on this planet. When this match started I was
beginning to think I was accidentally watching a tape of Shotgun instead
of a WWF PPV. A completely uneventful match.
Ken Shamrock vs. Jeff Jarrett (KOTR semi-finals)
Would the KOTR be JJ's chance to shine and step to the next level in the
WWF? Yeah, right. Jeff Jarrett's only means of attack was to tackle
Shamrock's leg. Shamrock executed a hurricanrana and finished Double J
off with the ankle lock.
The Rock vs. Dan Severn (KOTR Semi-finals)
Throughout the match Severn
displayed excellent wrestling skills, but we all know that Shamrock vs.
Severn matchup can't happen this soon. With Mark Henry distracting the
ref, D-Lo Brown knew his role and laid the smack down on Severn's ass
with a frog splash off the top rope.
Al Snow/Head vs. Too Much (Special ref Jerry Lawler)
Pittsburgh is ECW country and it showed, as the crowd was definitely behind Snow. The comic relief of Al Snow is equaled only by DX. At first, Snow and
Head didn't look like a very good team since Head was reluctant to tag
in. Finally, Snow tagged in the Head and the match changed. Snow was
battling Scott Taylor and Brian Christopher went to work on Head. With
help from his daddy, Lawler, Christopher attached a bottle of "Head and
Shoulders" to the Head and got the pin.
X-Pac vs. Owen Hart
An action packed match between two great wrestlers. The turning point
was Mark Henry splashing X-Pac on the floor. Vader then ran out and
nailed Henry. Owen then put the sharpshooter on X-Pac, but Chyna came
to the rescue with the DDT on Owen.
New Age Outlaws vs. Midnight Express
The best part of the match was when brothers and former tag partners,
Billy and Bart Gunn squared off. A great back and forth tag team match
that proved Road Dog Jesse James is definitely one of the least talented
ring wrestlers in the WWF. A double team with a Hot Shot (slingshot off
the top rope) ended the match.
The Rock vs. Ken Shamrock (King of the Ring FINAL)
Two of the best athletes in the WWF squared off for the King of the Ring
title. This was a very entertaining match that went back and forth.
Shamrock showed he sure has come a long way since his debut. Obviously,
with the Intercontinental Title NOT on the line, The Rock was clean to
job the match.
Undertaker vs. Mankind (Hell in a Cell)
Definitely the match of the night. FOLEY!!! FOLEY!!! FOLEY!!! The match started out with Mankind on top of
the cage. UT joined him and the battle began. Within seconds UT threw
Mankind off the top of the cage to the Mexican PPV table. That's right!
About 20 feet from the top of the cage to the table. AMAZING!!! Personally, I thought UT screwed up. The
paramedics came out along with Terry Funk and the match looked like it
was over. While taking Mankind away on the stretcher, Mankind decided
the show must go on. Mankind climbed back on top of the cage to meet UT
again. UT chokeslammed Mankind THROUGH the cage and Mankind landed in
the middle of the ring on his back. Another drop of about 16 feet. WWF!
WWF! WWF! The paramedics entered again and UT chokeslammed Funk. The
ring emptied leaving Mankind and UT locked inside. Mankind hit UT with
a chair and UT crawled on the ground so he could blade. Mankind found a
bag of thumb tacks under the ring and dumped them on the ring. A battle
back and forth until UT chokeslammed Mankind on the thumbtacks. The
chokeslam was followed by a tombstone.
Kane vs. Stone Cold Steve Austin (WWF championship-First Blood match)
The Kane angle may still be alive. Austin took the advantage right away
and the cell started lowering. They fought outside for a while and then
climbed back in the ring. The cell lowered again. Mankind came running
down with a chair, but Steve Austin stunned him and then stunned Kane.
Undertaker came running down with a chair of his own. UT poured gas on
the knocked out ref. Austin and UT lined up to give Mankind a double
chair, but UT hit Austin. Austin fell to the floor and OBVIOUSLY cut
himself. Austin beat on Kane with the chair while blood poured down
Austin's face like syrup out of a bottle. The ref recovered and called
for the bell. What are the five words you never thought you would hear?
"... And NEW WWF champion, Kane!"
