MATCH ONE: GOLDUST vs. BLUEDUST
Bluedust is the Blue Meanie who has been hounding Goldust as of late on
Raw is War. Goldust makes short work of his blue counter part though.
Bluedust attempts a Meanie-sault (Moon-sault) from the top rope and
Goldust moves out of the way. Goldust hits the Curtain Call and pins
Bluedust. Afterward, Goldust hit the Shattered Dreams in the corner to
a rising ovation from the crowd. Bluedust did not go over well in
Memphis.
WINNER: GOLDUST via PINFALL
MATCH TWO: WWF HARDCORE TITLE MATCH
AL SNOW w/ HEAD (Champion) vs. BOB HOLLY (Challenger)
(This match was supposed to be between Al Snow and Roaddog but because
of an incident that occurred on Raw Saturday Night, Roaddog was unable
to compete. Bob Holly was substituted because of an incident that
occurred between him and Al Snow on Raw Saturday night as well.)
Surprisingly, this match turns out well. Many weapons are used as the
combatants battle through the crowd, into the loading dock, outside and
all the way to the banks of the Mississippi river. End comes when Holly
wraps Snow up in chain link fence and Snow is unable to kick out.
WINNER: BOB HOLLY via PINFALL (NEW WWF HARDCORE CHAMPION)
MATCH THREE: BIG BOSS MAN vs. MIDIAN
Both Lawler and Cole were commenting on the loud ovations Midian and the
Ministry were recieving, but I heard none. Therefore I would expect a
face push for the Ministry against the Corporation. Anyway this was the
most boring match of the night. In fact, the one thing the crowd was
chanting was boring. Big Boss Man hits the Bossman side-slam and pins
Midian. The Ministry arrive, demolish the Bossman and carry him out.
WINNER: BOSSMAN via PINFALL
MATCH FOUR: WWF TAG TEAM TITLE MATCH
OWEN HART & JEFF JARRETT w/ DEBRA (Champions) vs. D'LO BROWN & MARK HENRY
w/ IVORY (Challengers)
Mark Henry starts the matchup by presenting Ivory some flowers and
chocolates for Valentine's day (For those of you who do not know Ivory,
she was given to Mark Henry on Raw Saturday Night by D'Lo to keep Mark's
eyes off Debra). Both teams hit thier usual spots until the end. D'Lo
is about to finish Owen off with the Frog Splash when Debra distracts
him. With the referee's back turned, Owen smacks Mark Henry's leg with
the guitar and Jarrett locks in the Figure Four leg lock. Henry
submits. After the match Ivory attempts to rip off Debra clothes but is
unsuccessful.
WINNERS: JEFF JARRETT & OWEN HART RETAIN WWF TAG TITLES
MATCH FIVE: WWF INTERCONTINENTAL TITLE MATCH
VAL VENIS w/ RYAN SHAMROCK (Challenger) vs. KEN SHAMROCK (Champion)
BAD ASS BILLY GUNN SPECIAL GUEST REFEREE
(Billy Gunn stepped up to the plate on Raw Saturday Night and declared
himself referee for the match after Shamrock snapped and beat up the
other officials in the WWF. The head referee Earl Hebner had told the
world that no WWF official would referee Shamrock's pay-per-view match
up with Val Venis. Gunn then took the role)
Billy enters the ring with the Outlaw theme music and he does Road Dog's
"Oh You Didn't know?" Val Venis tells the Memphis crowd that he is like
Valentine's day, "He has a Heart On for all the ladies". The match
starts and Gunn is very entertaining pretending to be oblivious to
obvious violations to the rule book. Gunn also checks out Shamrock's
sister (Ryan) and is very vocal about not seeing anything happening
in the ring. Shamrock hits a DDT and Gunn won't count three. Shamrock
then applies the ankle lock but his sister helps Venis get out of it.
Shamrock confronts his sister and then pushes Gunn who gives him a few
right hands and rolls him in the ring. Val rollls Shamrock up and Gunn
counts a quick three. Gunn then takes care of both men and exits to a
huge pop from the crowd.
WINNER: VAL VENIS via PINFALL (NEW WWF INTERCONTINENTAL CHAMPION)
MATCH SIX: TRIPLE H & X-PAC vs. CHYNA & KANE
Triple H wears his Chyna syndrome t-shirt to the ring, rips it up, wipes
his ass with it and throws it at Chyna. Match begins with action
between Kane and X-Pac. Chyna is tagged in and X-Pac goes for the
Bronco Buster but Chyna escapes. As match continues, X-Pac knocks out
Shane McMahon who had arrived for commentary. Match then breaks down
and Triple H is hitting his usual spots on Chyna. With X-Pac chasing
Shane McMahon out of the ring and the referee out of positin, Triple H
goes for the pedigree. Kane interupts and chokeslams him, then places
Chyna on top for the three count.
WINNERS: CHYNA & KANE via PINFALL
MATCH SEVEN: WWF HEAVYWEIGHT TITLE MATCH (LAST MAN STANDING RULES)
THE ROCK (Challenger) vs. MANKIND (Champion)
To win the match your opponent must not be able to get up after a ten
count issued by the referee.
This was probably the best match of the night. Match starts out in the
ring and carries all over the arena near the entrance way. The first big
spot of the night comes when Mankind DDTs The Rock through a sound check
table by the entrance way. Back at ringside, Mankind goes to piledrive
the Rock through the announce table but the Rock backdrops him onto the
time keeper's table. The Rock then heaves the metal steps over the top
rope down onto Mankind lying on the arena floor. With Mankind down and
out, Rock gets on the microphone and does the most electryfying Elvis
impersonation Memphis has ever heard. Of course Rock sings Smack Down
Hotel (sung to the tune of Heartbreak hotel). Rock gets Socko and then
out of desperation hits the Rock Bottom. Both men grab a chair and hit
a double chair shot. The referee counts to ten and both men are out.
Both men are carried out in stretchers and both are out into ambulances
side by side, and driven away to a hopital.
WINNER: MATCH DECLARED A DRAW - MANKIND RETAINS WWF TITLE
MATCH EIGHT: STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN vs. VINCE MCMAHON (Steel Cage)
McMahon stalls by not getting into the ring. Austin goes out after him.
Austin beats McMahon all over the ringside area and into the crowd.
McMahon begins to climb back into the cage when Austin chase up after
him and causes McMahon to fall from the top of the cage into the Spanish
announce table (ala Shawn Michaels from Hell in the Cell). The EMTs come
out to take McMahon away but Austin won't let him get away that easily.
Austin drags Vince, on a stretcher, back to the ring and puts him in the
cage. Austin stomps the tar out of Vince but each time he is to leave,
Vince flips him off and Austin reenters the cage. Austin finally hits
the Stone Cold Stunner, then Paul Wight (The Giant) enters through the
ring and throws Austin around like a rag doll. With Austin down McMahon
tells Wight to throw Austin through the cage. Wight does, and the cage
gives way and swings open. Austin holds on and jumps off and hits the
arena floor. Austin wins, he is going to WrestleMania XV.
WINNER: STONE COLD STEVE AUSTIN via FIRST OUT OF THE CAGE
* On a side note, I picked up on a major blooper from Ken Shamrock. When he confronted his siste r outside the ring during his match , the camera caught him telling her to slap him quite clearly, which she did. It was like watching the ref in the "Secrets of Pro Wrestling Exposed" all over again!
