Yakum FC back in
business with a major 3-1 win over Kfar-Yona. It
was an important match for the Red & Blacks. The poor performance last
week against Arazim certainly put the heat
on. The team was a bit dazzled, and going on an away game against the strong
Kfar-Yona could have had quite a devastating effect in case of a loss.
It started bad for Yakum
FC. Not even 10 minutes in the game, Kfar-Yona's forward got a ball near
the 16 box; although marked by Yakum's defense, he managed to launch a
magnificent kick to the upper right corner; a stunning unstoppable 1-0.
However, Yakum FC took over the game. They played better, and although
goals were not scored until half-time whistle, it was quite obvious that
it is a different, determined team.
Yakum FC started the
2nd half with a vengeance. It took the R & D team less then 10 minutes
to even the score, a delightfully performed free kick by the young Roi
Cordoba - and the ball landed in K. Yona's net - Yakum FC's first goal
of the 98-99 season. from then on, the 2nd goal was a matter of when, rather
then if... 15 minutes later, Amir R, who played in midfield, took over
a stray ball, sent Ilan A. in the right wing, and hurried into the box.
Ilan passed his man and put the cross right on the money (or rather, Amir's
head...), and Amir delivered: 2-1!
But Yakum FC was not
satisfied yet. A free kick near the box was awarded, close to the end of
the match. Yakum tried a 'Zanneti style' drill, with Amir cutting away
from the wall to get the ball. However, he was caught from behind and the
ref was decisive: a penalty kick. Ilan had no trouble scoring the 3rd for
Yakum, 3-1.
The convincing victory
let out a lot of the steam. In the press conference after the game, Eyal
B. said: "We had the game under control throughout. We played better,
and felt very confident. Personally, I think it was FC's best game so far,
including the pre-season."
