I can't make up my mind on how good the new RHCP album is. It's obvious that these guys know how to play well together and the album has some very very good songs. I just wonder whether it was a good idea to make a double album or not. A big part of the album sounds like "Blood Sugar Sex Magik" which means those songs are good but not great. I think that they could had cut some songs and release a single album. It could be their best ever then, cause songs like "Especially in Michigan", "Hey-oh", "Charlie", "Hard to concentrate" and "Dani California" are not being created just every day or by just anyone. Especially with "Hard to concentrate", they seem to explore new musical grounds and to refresh their style, extremely successfully. And it's impossible to ignore the intro of "Hey-oh" (once again, John plays some incredible guitar in this album).
