Farrier Science

My qualification for having written this page and why you can trust it: Everything on these pages is based on notes I took in a college class at Virginia Intermont College about farrier science. The purpose here (and in the class) is not to teach you how to shoe horses but to the understand the structures of the legs so that you can better understand the problems that can occur and how to identify them. Lesson 2: Tendons, Ligaments, and Shock Absorbtion
Lesson 3: Outer and Inner Structures of the Hoof
Lesson 4: Hoof Moisture and Limb Defects
Lesson 5: Hoof Structure Defects
Lesson 6: Blemishes and Unsoundnesses part 1
Lesson 7: Blemishes and Unsoundnesses part 2
Lesson 8:
