Well, today was Freshwater with Jonno, Dave and more... although it was great to get back in after those horrid study months, the waves didn't welcome. There were no waves. But after finicking around the South Point, some were to be caught, even if they were 1/2 to 1 foot.

With Tunni out hurt with a debilitating back injury, it was left to me to plod the shores in a hope that it would indeed be my last day before choofing off to the sunny slopes of Colorado. Harping on the point, the visa didn't come, so the surf is looking good or bad, for at least the next few days... perhaps even if I'm really unlucky... or lucky, I'll end up on the shores of Waimea Bay and in the big stuff outside of Hale'Iva with Andy and Donald, in January/February. A little bird told me they were shipping a jet-ski over for the winter swells... might not be a bad investment methinks!

Anyways, getting onto the surf today. Freshwater was the go, I thought, because a small swell was the news, and Freshy is "always" good... or so I thought. The easterly wind was quite strong when I arrived and my biggest mistake of the day turned out not to be the wrong turn at the end of Forest Way, but that I went in at Freshy... stupid me. It was crap. Chopped up and small... only caught like a few half waves, then gave up, for a search for something better, maybe, further up the coast. A look at Deewhy... nup... it was worse than Freshwater. At least I didn't make another mistake, but decided to have another go, this time up at Narra, the Beach Boys mention it... so it had to be better. Was it? It was indeed! Narra had a building surf, without as much chop, and some nice little breakers up 25 metres out. At least the drive was worth it in the end. After 1/2 - 3/4 of an hour (the peak hour approached) it was over, but well worth it I say! Now back to dreaming of Waimea!
