Squad Details for '97-'98 Season Goalkeepers: Mark Westhead Signed from Bolton Wanderers during the close season. Induces panic from supporters by the way he appears to have dropped every catch. Nicky Broujos He has been with the Rovers since 1989. Apart from being a keeper Nicky is also the Commercial director of the club, responsible for raising funds. Hopefully he holds onto money better than he does crosses. Broujos spent a year on loan to Cliftonville for the '93-'94 season, which was the last time he played regular first team football. Known to produce a howler in almost every game he plays.
Mark Hutchinson Second year with the Rovers, he joined from Dundee in June '96. A speedy full back, who's not afraid to get stuck in. One of the better players in the side. Ian Lynch Long serving centre half. His name seems to appear in a referee's notebook more often that Ian Wright's. As a result, he enjoys frequent games off. Likes to converse throughout games with said ref. Wears number eleven, for some reason. Slow. Peter Cubbesson Big Dutch centre half signed during the summer, hopefully better than last years Dutch player who was released after two months (he was so good I've forgotten his name). Cubbesson, who was on Ajax's books is 6'4" and completely useless in the air, but good on the ground. Brian Southworth Another close season signing. A full back he was bought from Preston. Can't tackle, won't run, a complete load of rubbish. I hope he bought a return ticket. Matthew Daly Sent-off in his debut against Finn Harps for a bad tackle on pensioner Jonathan Speak, so obviously not quick, himself and Ian Lynch will often be caught for pace. Nicky Reid Old, so won't be fast either. Player/manager, reckons he can play in midfield (or else he'll take the ball home). He'll always be a full back who will hopefully take over from Southworth. Lee Shearer Signed on-loan from Leyton Orient, he's big and burly. Not as highly rated as his brother Alan, but he's helped tighten up the defence.
Lee Thew (Bless you) Another English import, second year with the club. Played with Doncaster and Scarborough. Strong player, scores now and then too. Steve Jones Like Reid, came to Sligo from Bury. Young, strong and energetic, too good for the Rovers, he'll be back in England in no time. Neil Ogden South African, played with Wigan Athletic. Left sided combative player, strikes a mean free kick, adept flicks. Damien Kennedy Local lad, made his debut last year. He plays on the right. Steve Berks Big Fella. Crowd favourite. Looks very intimadating with a very tight haircut. Scores now and then too.
Padraig Moran Left winger come centre forward, signed from Hearts in 1993. Consistent scorer, much missed last season while injured. Falcon Rose South African striker, scored a hat-trick against Derry on his debut. Recommended by former player Johnny Brookes. Has since looked promising. Donagh Oates A centre forward, his prolific exploits with the Reserves gained him his debut with the senior team last season. Sean Flannery Striker. Young fellow, played with the youth team last year and won an All Ireland medal with Summerhill College. The Title's 'Player to watch'. Looks like he will be good. Marcus Hallows Big centre forward. Played with Stockport. Injury plagued. David Regis Signed from Barnsley. Looks a little lazy, although could strike up a good partnership with Falcon Rose.
