Collective Soul News

Updated 2/15/99

Collective Soul's new album Dosage is out on the shelves right now- go buy it! The album is deceptively simple- almost without pictures or artwork in the booklet. The bees and the honey all over the album is either deep symbolism or just a wacky idea, send me your thoughts. The music on this album is full of very catching melodies, rythyms, and riffs just like Disciplined Breakdown. There are a few heavy songs on the album, a couple "pop" tunes, and a few drum machine/synthisizer songs. Great variety!

What? Only 11 songs? Well then you didn't look hard enough! There are actually 2 bonus tracks! One is hidden, and this song is "She Said" from a soundtrack a year ago. To get the other song, put the disc in a computer cd-rom drive.

    Here are the track listings:
  1. Tremble for My Beloved
  2. Heavy
  3. No More, No Less
  4. Needs
  5. Slow
  6. Dandy Life
  7. Run
  8. Generate
  9. Compliment
  10. Not the One
  11. Crown
  12. She Said Hidden Track
  13. Almost Computer track

Collective Soul's new album, Dosage, is scheduled for release on February 9, 1999. The album was reportedly recorded at Cryteria Studios in Miami, Florida. As for the sound of the new album, Dosage will be harder and heavier than disciplined Breakdown was. What good news! While DB was an extremely good CD, Collective Soul is a hard rock band and they sound best that way. Rumor has it that the band used different instruments on Dosage- piano? organ? violin? Guess we'll have to wait and find out. I have also read on The Collective Soul Link Web Page( pretty good site) that Ross will be doing some singing on the album.

Check this out-99X - you can hear "RUN" and "HEAVY" in Real Audio! Go to MTV to see video clips of "RUN" in the TOP 20 section.

Rythym guitarist Dean Roland married Shannon Reynolds on June 13, 1998. Shannon had been Dean's long-time girlfriend. The other Roland, Ed, is expecting a boy with his wife Stephanie. In a magazine interview, Ed said that there will be a song on the new album about the birth of his son- Trembling for My Beloved.

Ed Roland makes a guest appearance on Tommy Shaw's new solo CD, 7Deadly Zens. Shaw is a member of the band Styx. Ed sings backing vocals for at least one track- Oceans? I am not sure, but I do know that the CD is due out around June 30.

Collective Soul has not made any official announcements as to when they will begin touring for their new album, but rumor on the internet has it that they will start out before the album is released. A couple of sites have possible tour dates begining August 1, in either Florida or California. I obviously have this information very mixed up, and i cannot remember where exactly I read this. I will try to locate the sites that posted these tour dates before the end of June. Look for Collective Soul to make a step up in their venue size. They are definitely big enough to start playing in ampitheatres and other large outdoor venues. However, I feel that the band is better suited for small and medium sized indoor concert halls and other venues of the sort.

Different hair? Yet another rumor holds that the band has different hairstyles from the last time we saw them on the DB tour. Only a rumor though.
