Basic Equipment

In traditional gymnastics you can spend tens of thousands of dollars on equipment and countless hours repairing and adjusting. Non-traditional gymnastics doesn't require all of this. It just needs some basic equipment and a little imagination to make things work.

Mats - Preferably folding mats. They store easier and are easier to move. If you can get the ones with Velcro on the ends, they can be set up in an infinite number of ways. It depends on the number of children you service for classes as to the number of mats you should have.

Balance beam - Start with at least a 10 ft. low beam (less than a foot off the ground ). You can also make beams from 4 x 4 posts, 2 x 4's , 2 x 6 's, etc.

That's it to start ! You can also supplement your equipment with some of the following:

Incline mats (wedge mats)

Octagons

Mailboxes

Crash mats (fat mats)

Trapezoid / Vault box

Low Horizontal bars

Spring Boards - jogging tramps work also

Hoops

Streamers

Rings

Ladders
