Ryne Sandberg, was, in my opinion, the greatest secondbaseman of alltime. Not only does he have the alltime record for homeruns by a secondbaseman, he was nearly flawless defensively. I think he should be a first ballot Hall of Famer. He is at least the contemporary of players like Joe Morgan, and Rogers Hornsby.

1978 to 1997
Why do I like Ryne Sandberg? Well it's a bizarre story really, that ties into why I love the Cubs. I was in 4th grade and up the street from our church was a Thrifty Drugstore. Every Sunday I would get my allowance and go there and buy baseball cards. One day I bought a pack of 1992 Score baseball cards. I pulled out a "Dream Team" card, which was the coolest card I had ever seen. It was, of course, Ryne Sandberg. I was from that moment devoted to the Cubs, and Ryno, himself. A bizarre coincidence is that right after I got "The Card", I was up in Northern California on vacation and was forced to go on a hike. Under a rock was a Cubs hat. I have decided that this was divine intervention. My grandfather was a huge Cubs fan, and I never really got to know him, or how much he loved them, before he died. I think he wanted to make sure the tradition went on.
Well, that's all for now.
May all your dreams have the Cubs win the pennant. See you in the Series!
After last week I remebered the one true encounter I had with "The Great One"(NO! Not Wayne Gretzky!). It was a Spring Training game about 4 years ago. My dad, my brother and I were in Tempe and caught an Angel Cub game. Ryne Sandberg was playing, but he and Mark Grace were taken out early. It was about the 7th inning and we had field seats. Ryno and Mark were walking down the foul lines, and I yelled to him. He looked over and I tossed my ball to him. He signed mine and went in the dugout. The Cubs went on to win. It was a perfect day!
