Sligo Rovers F.C.

Sligo Rovers 3-3 Dundalk

The Rovers Rovers were two goals up after five minutes, but had to rely on that man, Falcon Rose for a last gasp equaliser. Dundalk were shell-shocked when Lee Thew blasted Sligo in front after just two minutes when he shot on the turn from a Neil Ogden cross. Sligo increased their lead three minutes later. Padraig Moran split the defence with a perfectly measured pass to Falcon Rose who applied the finish. The Louth side pulled one back after 18 minutes when Peter Withnell put David Hoey clear and he lobbed Mark Westhead from the edge of the box. Farce is never far from the Showgrounds, and so Westhead and Ian Lynch got to work. An easy cross was cut out by the punching keeper. The ball struck Lynch's back and somehow bobbled over the line.
Dundalk saw red and in the second half launched attack after attack. They were rewarded with three minutes left. Withnell passed to Noel Melvin whose firm shot beat Westhead all ends up. Sligo weren't finished, but Ogden was. He was sent off in the final minute. His delay leaving the pitch meant a little extra time being played. His South African compatriot, Rose scored his second goal of the night with almost the last kick to keep Sligo's unbeaten streak going. A point gained rather than two lost even though we were two up.

Rovers: Westhead, Southworth, Hutchinson, Reid, Cubbesson, Ogden, Jones, Moran, Thew, Rose, Lynch.
