Between 1941-1950
1941 Old Trafford is bombed.
1945/46 FA Cup: Fourth Round.
League football is still suspended. New manager Matt Busby sows the seeds of greatness by appointing Jimmy Murphy as his assistant and signs Scotland winger Jimmy Delaney for £ 4,000.1946/47
1946/47 First Division: 2nd. FA Cup: Fourth Round.
1947/48 First Division: 2nd. FA Cup: Winners.
The' double' is nearly achieved. United bear Blackpool 4-2 at Wembley to lift the FA Cup for the second time, but are pipped by Arsenal for the League title.
1948/49 First Division: 2nd. FA Cup: Semi-Final.
1949/50 First Division: 4th. FA Cup: Sixth Round.
The Club returns to Old Trafford which is still recovering from bomb damage. The first game back is on 24th August 1949 and United defeat Bolton Wenderers 3-0. Goalkeeper Ray Wood signs from Darlington for £6,000.
