Mars is the fourth planet from the sun.  It orbits 141 million miles (228 million km) from the sun.  Mars is half the diameter of Earth and twice the diameter of our moon.

Mars is a rocky, red planet.  Mars is not only rocky, but sandy as well.  Mars's sand is like flour.  The surface of Mars is almost exactly the same as Earth's dry land.  Olympus Mons stands on Mars.  It is the biggest volcano in the solar system.

Mars has two moons.  They are called Phobos and Deimos.  Phobos and Deimos are named after the dogs of god Mars.  Mars is named after the roman god of war.
