TVB's Cold Blood Warm Heart is not your ordinary police drama
series. It's complex love triangles and action won the hearts of many fans. The
story takes place in present day Hong Kong. Adam
Cheng stars as Tsiu Wing
Bong, Tsiu Ka-Lap's (Gallen Lo) adopted older brother. They are both police
officers who work under the new boss Lo Chi-Kin (Chi
Lam). Chi Lam's best
friend is Yip Wing-Hong, the grandson of a wealthy bank owner, played by
Louis Koo. Chi-Kin lives across the hall from the Tsiu brothers and their family
with his older sister Wai Fong played by Christine
Ng. Nnadia
stars as
Fong Hao-Yung, the daughter of a lower middle class family. She lives with her
gambling brother,older sister and mother. Other cast members include Maggie
Cheung Ho Yee and Astrid Chan who play Louis's
cousins. Wallis Phang,
Gallen's younger sister, and Jessica Hester
Hsuan, her best friend. The
following is a summary of the love triangles, but this storyline sits amidst the
backdrop of criminal investigations and corruption within the Yip family bank.
Hao-Yung (Chung Chung) works in the bank owned by Wing-Hong's (Louis)
grandfather. She meets up with Wing-Hong as he is working out in a field
growing vegetables. He immediately falls for her sweetness, while she is
teaching him how to properly work the vegetables. Later she meets up with
Chi-Kin (Chi Lam) on a bus and pays his fare because he doesn't have any
change. Later on that day she witnesses the death of her friend at the bank and
police quickly come in to investigate, among these are Wing Bong (Adam) and
Chi Kin. Chi Kin interrogates Hao Yung at the hospital because she has become
hysterical due to the incident. Soon he finds himself intrigued by Hao-Yung.
In the meantime, Wing Hong cannot stop talking about the girl he met
in the garden. He brings her up into conversation with Chi Kin constantly and
Chi Kin mentions the girl from the bus. However, neither realizes that they are
talking about the same girl. Chi Kin and Hao Yung continue to meet
occasionally and at one point a misunderstanding forms between them about her
brother. Eventually, Wing Hong invites Chi Kin to his boat for a party so that he
can introduce him to his "girl". Chi Kin was completely stunned to learn that
his best friend was in love with the same girl as him. He resolves the issue
about her brother and resolves, internally that he will no longer pursue her, but
instead let his friend get with her.
However, Hao Yung has no feelings but friendship towards Wing Hong
and she attempts to get closer to Chi Kin. Chi Kin, in turn, distances himself
from Hao Yung. Through a little difficulty, Chi Kin and Hao Yung come
together in secret, afraid to tell Wing Hong of their relationship. Due to
scheming with Wing Hong's corrupt father a hostage situation occurs outside of
the bank and Wing Hong is accidentally shot by Chi Kin. In anguish over his
friend's situation it tears Chi Kin and Hao Yung apart. Soon they return
together and Wing Hong recovers and eventually discovers their relationship.
Although, hurt at first he realizes that their friendship is more important. Hao
Yung's brother is a gambler and constantly in trouble with the law. He soon
decides to rehabilitate himself, but before he does completely he gets himself
involved in a drug scheme. Wrongly implicated, he gets put into jail. All the
evidence leads to him so Chi Kin can do nothing to appease Hao Yung's
appeals to release her brother. A fight in the prison leads to his death and Hao
Yung blames Chi Kin. She decides that they should no longer be together and
does everything in her power to avoid him. He is completely heart broken.
Eventually he decides to go away to Canada for three years for police
training and to cool off their relationship. He writes to her everyday, but she
does not respond. When he returns he tries desperately to regain her love, but
his efforts seemingly fail. You see, Hao Yung did want to return to his side, but
she was unsure. At this time she had worked her way up in the bank with Wing
Hong's help. Wing Hong was now pursuing her due to his friend's absence and
he purposefully erased messages from Chi Kin to Hao Yung. Eventually, Chi
Kin gives up and Hao Yung ends up with Wing Hong.
All the while, Chi Kin befriended Suet-Ying (Jessica). She was also out
of love. The love of her life, Ka Lap (Gallen) dumped her for Hiu-Fong (Astrid)
the wealthy granddaughter of the bank owner. Through their sorrow evolved
love for each other. For a long time, things work this way. Chi Kin and
Suet-Ying even live with each other. And things seem good between Hao Yung
and Wong Hung. Chi Kin plans to marry Suet-Ying, but she has second
thoughts. Ka Lap does not love his wife, Hiu-Fong, and wants Suet-Ying back.
So he divorces Hiu-Fong in order to return to Suet-Ying. Suet-Ying breaks up
with Chi Kin, and he is again broken hearted. All the while he discovers his lost
messages to Hao Yung. Hao Yung discovers that Wing Hong has been covering
up his father's shady dealings in the bank, and she breaks up with him. She
begins to become more independent, through all of this she was still friends with
Chi Kin. She finds out that Chi Kin has been providing for her dead brother's
baby. She is touched by this.
Suet-Ying and Ka Lap seem to have the perfect life now. Both
completely in love with one another. However, Suet-Ying finds out about his
evil doings and corrupt actions and attempts to run away with him. In a dispute
on a cliff Ka Lap accidentally pushes her off and she falls to the bottom. In
complete hysterics he wants to run down and find her, however his companion
tells him no. Later on her body is discovered and she is still alive. Amnesiac,
she doesn't remember what has happened to her. Chi Kin believes it is Ka
Lap's doing and pursues the truth, all the while Hao Yung is by his side helping
him. Her sister tells her to back off and not get hurt by him once again.
However, because deep down she is still in love with him she continues to help
him.
A huge fiasco of confusion stirs with the kidnapping of Suet-Ying by a
crazy Ka Lap. Hao Yung rescues her only to get in a car accident and lose her
eyesight in the process. Chi Kin realizes Hao Yung's devotion to him and he is
touched by it. Suet Ying is put into hiding and no one but Chi Kin knows that
she is still in Hong Kong. However, eventually Suet Ying leaves and goes back
to Ka Lap only to attempt to kill him. Due to the accident on the cliff she has
become insane. After the attempt she commits suicide by jumping off the
balcony. Distraught by the loss of his love, Ka Lap kidnaps Hao Yung and
buries her alive six feet under. Chi Kin realizes that he cannot live with
HaoYung. His love for her is so strong he is completely distraught, not eating
or sleeping. He cannot stop thinking about Hao Yung. He goes into a complete
frenzy and confronts Ka Lap. Ka Lap is killed by the mafia before Chi Kin can
discover Hao Yung's whereabouts, however the other police have already found
her. Chi Kin is injured and brought to the hospital. When he awakes he only
wants to know about Hao Yung's condition, however she has already left. She
felt it was her fault he had gotten hurt and she didn't want him to be with her out
of obligation. She was afraid that his love for her would turn to regret due to her
blindness. So, she decides to leave Hong Kong. For the next few years Chi Kin
went searching for Hao Yung. Finally one day, he came back to Hong Kong and
goes to the wishing tree to wish for Hao Yung back. While desperately wishing,
he meets up with Hao Yung, who is now able to see again. Their love is so
strong now that they embrace and promise to be together always.
