Everybody knows a thing or two about count Dracula. But few know the real story. I will try to tell you some things about the true story of Count Dracula. Nobody knows for sure if vampires are real or not, but I can tell you there is no conection between Count Dracula, and vampires. The name Count Dracula comes from Vlad Tepes. He was the son of Vlad Dracul. Born in Sighisoara in the year 1431, he was prince of Wallachia, in romanian known as Tara Romaneasca.
The name Dracul means in romanian "Devil". It doesn't mean dragon as other people translated it. I heard that in old romanian dracul meant dragon and Devil, but I can't tell you if its only a rumor or the truth. In the present "dracul" is translated as "devil". Tepes is another nickname the prince had. Pronounced in romanian would sound something like "Tsepesh". It means "The Impaler". He had this nickname because he used to kill his enemies, and the thieves in his country this way.
In those times there were no killers,or thieves. Every man or woman who dared to defy the law was impalled. Stories say Vlad Tepes used to sit and watch how they died. I don't know if the stories are true. The enemies of Transilvania, the ottomans (people from the old Ottoman Empire, known now as Turkey) didn't like the harsh way Vlad Tepes dealed with things so they named him in many ways. They invented a lot of bad stories about him, because he used to kill them in the same way he kiled all evil-doers. They told the people that Vlad Tepes, son of Vlad Dracul, known also as Dracula, was a vampire. That he sucked the blood of the people he killed to remain young. That he slept in a coffin.
They said that because romanians used to defeat ottoman armies often, even when outnumbered three- to- one. He was one of the few who dared stand against Mohamed the 2-nd. So they started the legends about Dracula and the vampires he ruled. All these stories are lies. Maybe there are vampires in the world. Maybe its not just a myth, but I can asure you they don't come from Romania. Or at least they don't descend from Vlad The Impaller.
