John Illman is one of the country's leading specialist national newspaper and magazine journalist working in the field of medicine and health. He is currently chair of the Medical Journalists Association. John was previously the health correspondent for both the Daily Mail and The Observer and was health editor of the Guardian for seven years. In addition he was a health columnist for Women magazine and editor of both General Practitioner and New Psychiatry magazines. He has freelanced for a large number of publications including The Sunday Times, The Sunday Telegraph, The British Medical Journal and other magazines. He is the author of several books, including one co-authored with the pioneering heart surgeon Dr Christann Barnard. His many awards include the Rosemary Goodchild Prize for excellece in writing about women's reproductive health and contraception (1999)and shortlisting for the Glaxo Wellcome science writer of the year.
