Because my own research has immensely benefited from contacts made through the USGenWeb, my objectives are to promote sharing of information on Craig County families. Although I am not a resident of Craig County, I live close by. I hope to meet many of you who will help expand the information presented on these pages. Since this county was originated 1851, by family history standards - it is important to also visit the surrounding counties from which gave land to form Craig County. Botetourt, Montgomery, and Giles, are the counties that i refer to. By clicking here you can learn a little about the history of Craig County and view the outside of the courthouse.

Surrounding LibrariesThere are a number of very good libraries for conducting genealogical research in the area. The most extensive is the "Virginia Room" at the Roanoke City Central Library, 706 S. Jefferson St., Roanoke VA 24016 (540-853-2073). There is a branch located at Fincastle, P.O. Box 129, Fincastle VA 24090 (540-473-8339) that has a history room concentrating on Botetourt County. The Salem Library, 28 East Main St., Salem VA 24153 (540-375-4064) is not too far from the intersection of Interstate 81 and VA Route 311 leading to New Castle. The Library of Virginia located in Richmond, Virginia has an excellent Online Catalog search capability.
