Manifold links!

Below are links to Ranma sites that I really like -- mostly fanfic sites with stories I really enjoyed, a couple of others. I hope you'll like them too... and maybe someday some of them will link back to me... Sigh. Wishful thinking.

Richard Lawson's Fanfics

Richard Lawson is a great guy for simple, well-written fanfic stories with lots of WAFF and happiness. His major series, "Thy Inward Love" is a standard continuation-resolve-the-relationships-story, which in no way diminishes its quality. His secondary series, "Thy Outward Part," is... a little different. He's also written a Kodachi-centered story which was pretty nifty even if I didn't like the way he handled Akane in that one. Brr.

He's written other, non-Ranma fanfic as well, but what would I know about that?

Relentless

This was the first... no, second... Ranma fanfiction I read, so it does hold a special place in my heart. 'Relentless' is an (unfinished, I must warn you) epic story about a nasty vengeance-demon that gets sicced on Ranma through Happosai's folly, and all Ranma's adventures thereafter.

Hearts of Ice

God... I wish I could write like this girl. Krista Perry's "Hearts of Ice" is without question (IMO, anyway) one of the finest fanfic authors on the web. This story is a masterpiece of romance, drama, adventure... Just as Ranma and Akane are getting somewhere in their relationship, somebody (three guesses, all three of whom are fiancees) casts a blood spell that banishes Akane to the Kami plane... and after that you'll just have to read it and see for yourself.

Its single sticking point is that Perry-san hasn't finished yet. And if she doesn't give Ran-chan and Akane a happy ending after all the misery she's put them through.... grr.... but anyway! I greatly respect and admire Krista for producing this story, and only wish that I could have... say, uh, if you happen to notice some, um, correlations between my stories and this one, it's coincidence. Honest to God. Mostly.

Daigakusei no Ranma: Ranma in College

Well... the title says it all, really. This is a continuing series of the adventure of Ranma and his wife (Akane, y'pervert, who'd you think it was?) as they brave the wilds of college life. Written in script format, it's damn funny and pretty close to the original tone of Ranma 1/2.

I especially liked the baseball game in Episode 29.
By the way, any similarities between this story and "RA: Base Treachery" actually ARE coincidence, since the players and GM who came up with THAT story had never read DnR.

Zen's Fanfiction Page

Sniffle. Zen is the author of "The Bitter End," a story which has earned itself some notoriety in the Ranfic community. It's a well-written story, and so beautiful... If you're a Ranma/Akane fan, though, I suggest that you not read it unless you have an antidote handy -- Hearts of Ice, for example. Well... I'm not going to give it away, but "The Bitter End" is a heartbreakingly sad story where Ranma and Akane get married.

Zen's written other stuff, two. "Between a Rock and a Hard Place" is a particular favorite of mine, and not nearly so sad. Zen has a pretty good link section himself.

SKJAM!'s fanfic page

Scott Jameson, aka SKJAM, is an excellent writer and damn funny. He's written a lot of stories, almost all of them good, some happy, some not so much. I recommend "Ranma 'n' Roll" as kickass funny. "Twilight Existance" is also really good.

TransPacific Fanfiction

An archive of several different authors, all of whom seem to be equally obsessed by Ranma 1/2 and H. P. Lovecraft. Sometimes, as in "She's Got the Look," it works. Other times, as with "Eidolons," it doesn't. If you read nothing else in this page, however, you MUST read "The Varaiyah Cycle" and its sequel. Comedy at its finest, in my opinion.

Others on this page... I recommend "Bliss." It's an excellent mystery-thriller, although I actually guessed the identity of the man within the first two chapters and spent the rest of the story tearing my hair out trying to figure out who the girl was. Denial, I guess. Anyway. "Ill Met By Starlight" is also here; I spent a month psyching up to read it, and the following week wishing I hadn't. Lord. I did NOT need a flashback to Shampoo's death by rivet gun in the middle of my root canal, thank you very much. But it's a fantastically written story, and the outtakes are beautiful. In a funny way, that is. And then there's "Ukyo Can Cook." I admit, I'm dense; I didn't figure it out until the last line, and spent the next ten minutes walking in small circles making inhuman noises. Anyway... Go here. I guarantee you'll find SOMETHING you like.
