Recognizing the need to honor the trail rider who is the foundation of the CSHA and a need to encourage the use of riding and hiking trails by the members of CSHA, the Trail Riders Awards Program was established in 1988.
Riders keep track of the number of HOURS they trail ride and send a copy of the log to the program chair. It's that simple! It does not matter how far or fast you go, just the number of hours you spend on the trail. Any time spent out on the trails, whether alone or in a group, counts toward awards. It can be any type of trail riding; pleasure, conditioning, endurance, etc. It does not include time spent getting ready to ride or riding in an arena.
The riders also provide information on which trails they rode, the condition of the trail, how many riders there were and what type of riding it was. This information is useful in substantiating trail usage which is especially important now when so many trails are in jeopardy.
Upon joining the program, you receive a beautiful 5" patch and a year's supply of "Riders Log" record forms on which you keep track of your riding hours. Chevrons to be worn under the patch are awarded when you complete the following levels - 100, 200, 300, 500, 1000, 1500, 2000, and 2500 hours. A special Master Trail Rider Award will be presented upon completion of 3000 hours and a special sterling silver trophy buckle commemorating the Supreme Trail Rider will be presented when you reach 5000 hours of logged time.
This is a great program, especially for those of us who are "Sunday drivers" and just want to take a leisurely ride and look at the scenery.
All participants must be members of CSHA either as individuals or as members of a CSHA Club. There are no age divisions or limitations. There is no limit to the number of horses which may be ridden in qualifying for an award.
To join there is a one-time enrollment fee of $15.00 and an annual renewal fee of $10.00 to remain active in the program. These fees are used to cover the cost of record keeping, materials, providing the Riders Logs, patches and awards.
