Biography

Collin McCollin 1832-?

Collin married Sarah Ann Tarbotton from Aldbrough in 1855. In the 1861 Census Collin McCollin was a boilermaker of 66 Francis Street West in Hull. The business was McCollin & Tarbotton - based in Witham. By 1871 the family had expanded and they were living at 10 Damson Lane, Drypool, Hull. In 1881 they were at 16 Alexander Street: Lewis James (aged 23) was as yet unmarried and working as a boilermaker; William H. (19) was a photographer; Collin (16) was a wheelwright's office boy, and both Matthew (11) and Frederick A. (8) were scholars. Son Colin was a wheelwright at Harry's Place, Adelaide Street in 1889, according to Kelly's Hull Directory. Collin and Sarah's family were still at the same address in 1891 with four of their children still living there: Lewis (30) was described as a fitter; W.H. (27) a wheelwright; Matthew (20) a coachbuilder and Frederick (18) also a wheelwright. In the 1901 Census, Colin and Sarah (both aged 70) were at 8 Lily Terrace. Colin was still described asa boilermaker. They had sons, William H. (aged 39) (photographer), Matthew (aged 27) (coachsmith) and Frederick (aged 24) (wheelwright), still living with them.
