The above typed listings derive from information compiled in draft form by Marjorie Oletha Payne [Thomas] [Kelly] which she says was previously received from our beloved aunt Caroline Dustin Cogswell [Eckelman] 1882-1970, requisat in pace; information thence transmitted to this writer by Marjorie (Daniel's mother), typed here by same Daniel Charles Thomas and cross-referenced with entries in Charles D. Cogswell's old bible (handwriting appears to be by two or three different writers of possibly 1st through 3rd generation listed here) and with gravestones visited at the old family plot in Prairie Mound cemetery, Salem (Silver Lake -- at the corner of highway 50 and Cogswell Drive), with reference to records at Kenosha county court house, and biographical info contained in the History of Racine and Kenosha County. The interested reader (Burgess/Foster/Cogswell cousin?--write me!) is also refered to the Somers cemetery outside of Kenosha (city), Wisconsin, and Kenosha (Pike River) articles in the Wisconsin state archives available on-line (ADD hyperlinks here).

For a treatment of the descent of John Cogswell 1800-1892 (and Frank Cogswell 1846-1912) from the original immigrant ancestor family of John Cogswell (who emigrated to New England in 1635), please see the (rare) book The Cogswells in America. The reader of this page may also be interested in knowing that H.R.H. Diana Spencer herself descended from John Cogswell (the 1635 immigrant) and thus also her sons the princes William and Harry by her marriage with H.R.H. Charles [Prince of Wales].
