JOAN HESS
Joan Hess is one of my favorite authors. Although some of the Maggody books are less successful then others, there is never a book without a good laugh in it somewhere. Arly Hanks returned to her hometown of Maggody, Arkansas, from New York City after a failed marriage and an unsatisfying career. As Sheriff, she wants to do nothing more exciting than play with her radar gun while waiting to trap unsuspecting tourists. But she's forever caught up in the bizarre goings on of the good folk of Maggody. Descriptions of plots and characters can't do justice to this series since so much of its charm lies in Hess's wit and writing.
Malice In Maggody
Claire Malloy owns The Book Depot in Farberville, Arkansas. She's a single mother, raising a teenage daughter, Caron, who has mastered the art of Speaking In Capital Letters. There's a suprising amount of mayhem swirling around sleepy little Farberville, but Claire Malloy is up to the challenge.
